Description
I have risen from my grave to post a fan art of Sailor Iron Mouse!I absolutely love her design. I am not a HUGE fan of Naoko Takeuchi's art, but she had some killer character designs and in a second life must have been a fashion designer.
Previously when I drew her I made her eyes blue, but they are really gray I believe. The low quality stills from the show make them look purple, though, so I added some purple to her palette.
Character is from Sailor Moon's 5th season, Sailor Stars. She's © Toei Animation and Naoko Takeuchi

Well given how she reacted with Luna, probably would've been scared of her too. Maybe that's worth doing; interactions between the two? Tin Nyanko chasing her or whatever, but Iron Mouse outwitting her in turn, such as shining a laser or rolling a ball of wool

Gotta love the Animamates. Before Tokyo Mew Mew, they were the first kemonomimi I ever saw and I've loved them ever since. I'm happy people still make art of them sometimes.

I wasn't a huge Tokyo Mew Mew fan but the designs are fun, I'd really like to draw some of those characters eventually. I think one of the more recent Pretty Cure series had some animal themed girls and it really reminded me of Tokyo Mew Mew.

Yeaaahh. Didn't help that the anime already expanded on the Animamates' storyline (Iron Mouse, I think, got like one scene before she bit the dust) so there wasn't much to go off of. 👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Honestly, I getcha. TMM kinda only caught me for the kemonomimi and I couldn't binge it for too long without getting a little bored. One of the PreCure seasons that just came out did have animal girls, I've been looking to get into that one once I find a way to get my hands on it
My only problem with PreCure is that it is a very manufactured franchise. I think I was okay with the first PreCure but I had a professor who worked on the series that had more than just the two girls and he said they were very specifically trying to mimic the Sailor Moon formula. I guess I thought that was odd because the company that puts out PreCure is the same behind Sailor Moon, and I was like "Then just make more Sailor Moon!" And then eventually years later we got Crystal which... well... that was an adventure, for better or for worse, haha.
The manga was not kind to its villains! I think what would be the R season in the anime was the only arc that was pretty good in the manga. Pluto had more to do, at least. The manga wasn't great imho, but I know it has its die-hard fans. The anime did a lot to breathe life into the characters.

I mean it is. In some ways no series isn't, that it consciously copies Sailor Moon is a well-known fact especially since Toei is desperate to replicate the success they had with the latter. PreCure has its own flavor though, it's lighter and not at all concerned with appearing epic like SM was-- i.e., They were usually more concerned about saving their friends (like a princess from another world) rather than the entire world (as was the concern with every single villain of SM). Especially since most other Magical Girl series are tending to go darker and more Shounen-y, I think it fills a nice niche.
Yeeaaah, I really like that they expanded on the villains in the series. I think that was a huge part of being why this was one of the few times when I seriously preferred the anime canon to the manga one, my bias for Sailor Iron Mouse aside. Which... is probably why I reaaallyy didn't like Crystal.

I could rant about the current state of magical girls, for sure... like, a serious series is fine but magical girls should be for little girls, and PreCure (and I guess the CCSakura reboot) are like the only shows that are actually FOR little girls. I didn't like the slew of darker magical girls shows that came out in the last ten years, with maybe the exception of MadoMagi, because they were clearly made for otaku men and not girls, so friendship and love etc was no longer the driving force behind their motives to do good.
If you know the story behind Sailor Moon's manga roots, it really was a joint effort between the animation studio and the mangaka. She was asked to to a manga that built up on her Sailor V stories, but with more characters and with the intent it would be animated, so a lot of what she submitted was turned down because it was "hard to animate" etc etc. Prime example (besides the use of her villains!) would be when Tuxedo Mask dies in the first arc. In the anime, Sailor Moon makes a GREAT speech about how she won't kiss him because her fallen friends never got to say goodbye to their loved ones, and in the manga she just offs herself. @_@

Amen to that. I feel like every series post-Madoka is just trying to become another Madoka. Or, at the very least, they're looking to cash in on those sweet periphery demographic shounen-bucks by making it darker to appeal to boys.

I live in Japan, and the Blu-rays for the series would cost well over $250 USD. I think they are considerably cheaper in, say, the US but here it costs a LOT more to own an anime series. I'll eventually buy them, but I'm waiting for the price to go down a bit.

Thank you so much!! I always thought the villains in Sailor Moon were what made it REALLY stand out from other magical girl shows. They were so much fun and got better and better as the show progressed. I want to do a large collage of all the SM villains someday.

Yeah, sadly that is something with a lot of characters in shows
At some point, some higher-ups decide (for whatever reason - fame/money/etc.) that specific characters have no chance and let them disappear until someone finds them again. And the worst about this, is, that a lot of times, the really bad characters survive (or to put it better, stay until the end)

A show I grew up watching called Tiny Toon Adventures did something similar... it was kind of a well-understood fact that the skunk character Fifi was INSANELY popular, but for reasons nobody understood she was rarely on merchandise and not utilized in the show as much, but characters who weren't that popular were all over merchandise. It was kind of bizarre. This was back when the internet was not really a thing and I guess there was no way for the studio to know who was popular, but late in the series as the internet was starting to become something people had, they did make a joke about older fans favoring Fifi. So they knew! (and she was my favorite too, haha)

Yeah, I heard of that specific "incident" - I heard a rumor, that it had to do with licensing issues.
And after reading that there really are shows where different characters or even story parts belong to different artists I somehow can see that there might be some truth to it. And I think what you say actually makes sense. I mean the studio might really thought that character had no future and didn't want to pay the creator behind it money, and so they never really did it. But in the end, they saw it, but then it was too late.
Something I remember from recent years was from the game "Tales of Zesteria" - there was a character called "Alisha" who only appeared at the beginning of the game. But the developers never really thought much of her (or something like that), so she quickly disappeared. But in the end, people loved her so much, that they actually made a DLC/Addon so people can play with her.

There are definitely those minor characters studios don't expect to be very popular who end up being break-out hits! In recent years, Stranger Things had the character Barb. People made shirts for her and went nuts for her but she was only in the show for a very short time!

The funny thing is, it happens a lot of times, that side characters become more popular than the main ones
Heck, thinking about it, the same happened to me. I created Crystal so many years ago and at some point added Aiko just as a supporting character. She became the more beloved one ^^
But now I am curious:
How is it with your characters? Which one became the more dominant one (not from the story point but from the fans)?

Maris became WAY more popular than I expected her to be. Her merch sells out faster than Lamia's sometimes, and Lamia is the official most popular character. I was expecting Sam to be a lot more popular but I think his story has to develop more. Honestly, the character I am expecting to be one of the most popular is the new villain, but we'll see!

I think it because Maris was always this "goofball" in there but also brave and serious.
TBH, thinking about it, she was a character many were able to connect with in some way.
Lamia, on the other hand, has so much "screentime" - and of course her attitude helps a lot
And Sam, ok, for the moment, he is nothing more than this, how to put it, the creep who follows Arma ^^
About your new villain:
This one actually has a lot of potentials. What I read and saw so far, this could become interesting. Especially after what will happen/happened.
