Raven discovered her cutie mark when she looked at the moon for the first time.

She is a pessimistic pony, she has horns, but in them there is no magic, or anything, she is NOT a magic pony!
She never got to know her parents, and she really does not care about it, (no more) she's already looked for them once .. but eventually she discovered that as soon as she was born they abandoned her to die because they did not want one daughter so "Ugly and Ill-formated" ..but she managed to survive, and she grew up alone, never had friends, always lonely ... she never had a love .. she never had someone to love her .. she does not know how is feel loved by someone.
The other ponies are afraid of her, because of her rather peculiar appearance, but she does not care, she does not care about anything anymore, Raven is a poney detached from material things, she is extremely calm, and rarely (almost never) gets irritated.She is a melancholy and solitary pony.

Every night on her birthday she climbs up to an isolated waterfall to weep at the feet of the moon.
