Shelby had been invited to the office of I-Dunno Games, a new developer studio stationed just outside of town. They’re working on a new Playstation 5 game set to release just in time to become immediately outdated with the release of the Playstation 6 mere months after. Shelby had met many employees and saw some exclusive gameplay. “This is so cool,” thought Shelby. “If only Matt weren’t sick, he’d be loving this right now!”
“And here is where our in-house AI lives,” said the studio’s CEO. as he gestured towards a server standing next to a PC.
“AI?”
“It’s a simple one but it’s task is great. You see we’ve self-automated the entire process of disc and case manufacturing. Once the game is complete we’ll transfer it to this computer, which will upload the data through the AI. it will simultaneously burn the game onto the disc, create a label for the disc using art from the game, and attach it.”
“So it’s AI art but in-house and therefore not theft from artists?”
“Exactly”
“Well that’s cool and super ethical!”
“Indeed!”
After a long pause of the two standing there as if they just ended a PSA, Shelby goes over to the PC for a close look. As she is looking at the screen, she doesn’t notice the ID tag on her neck swing into the disc insert slit of the PC’s tower. Shelby feels a tug on her neck as she is yanked into the disc drive. The CEO stands there in awestruck confusion as he witnesses Shelby’s whole body get squeezed and sucked into the 4 inch slit. On the screen a pop up reads “COMPRESSING DATA” as the tower begins shaking, making whirs and muffled squeals. Once the noise calms down, a lump is seen squeezing through a wire connecting from the computer to the AI server. AI notices it has received information and it gets to work.
A machine inserts a blank Blu Ray disc in an input tray on the server. More whirs and squeals for help are heard as Shelby is forcibly flattened, digtized, and uploaded onto the disc. Shelby’s protests grow more faint, and the printer in the machine activates as it prints a design for the disc and attaches it.
DING!
The output tray on the server opens with a light burst of steam as the CEO leans in to see a finished PS5 disc of the new Shelby video game. “Well… that was unexpected.” retorted the CEO. “I guess that completes our tour.” He takes the disc out of the tray and begins walking “We’ll have you packaged and mailed back to your house. Sorry for the inconvenience, but your husband will have a new game to look forward to. Glad you’ve enjoyed the tour.”
