I faved it and I swear, I'm not a sociopath. I think I know myself better than anyone else does, right. I think it's unfair if people say that once they faved this, they're sociopaths. I also do think deleting criminals would be good for the society.

But I can't say I exactly want a death note as of the moment 'cause I'm pretty sure I won't really know what to do with it and whose names I should write in it. If someone was acting like Kira, I'd be glad (because then I'd feel some kind of safety) yet scared since I may not be a criminal but once in a while, I admit I also do some bad things since I'm only human and therefore, such can't be helped.

I know Kira only deletes criminals but what if, one day, we run out of criminals and still some people do bad things and since what Light really wants is to transform the world into a better place, won't that include people who still stain the world with sin?

I wish I had a deathnote. There are some idiots at my school that would be better off dead, since they are obviously going to grow up to be murderers and rapists. But I think Justin Beiber would be the first name in my book. >3

I would not use a death note. If I were to kill, I'd prefer to do it in a more...personal...way. Sorry if that sounds really sadistic. However, having a shinigami would be AWESOME.

As long as a death note would be used by a human, that person is bound to make mistakes sooner or later killing someone who didn't deserve it. Even in the anime, Light doesn't only kill criminals, he kills those that would stand in his way of becoming a god.
And knowing that you could be killed just by someone believing I was a criminal and not if I actually was one, is pretty darn scary.

Something that powerful, no one would be able to use with enough wisdom. So I would burn a Deathnote if I got one.

Dude, how far did you get in Death Note? xD He starts off killing mayor criminals but derails quickly, killing people that pursue him for being the murderer that he is. I don't think having a power like that is good for a person.

Also the idea of being followed around by some monster all the time somehow does not appeal to me.

If i had a deathnote, I know I would use it. Lets be honest, There are certain individuals who ruin our society; such as: Criminals (but not all criminals), corrupt politicians, and the CEO of Wal-Mart. The destruction of these people would bring about a better world.

The reason I like Death Note so much is because it touches certain taboo issues. Would I be able to kill if there were no consequences? Does power corrupt? Is it wrong to get rid of people who damage society?
I am certain no one here knows for sure if the notebook would be used or not if it fell in our hands. Life has ways to make sure you are tempted to use your power. We are all a little evil inside. That's reality.

I also want to see my shinigami!! XD

Wow. Some people need to not take this so seriously. It's great to have your own opinion, but chill out. There's a major difference between speculating about doing something that could not and will never happen anyway, and ACTUALLY having the ability to do it. It's not as if the artist is handing out free Death Notes to people. Geez.

Originally, I was going to jokingly say something like, "If I had one, I'd get rid of all murderers...and my evil teacher, too. >=]" But now someone will probably call me a heartless killer that's no better than the criminals, so whatever.

Here's a more serious answer:
I'll be honest in that part of me sided with Light. I think that there are murderers who are truly evil. I see no sense in letting them live, even in prison. Yes, there are those who have had bad pasts, but does that really give them an excuse to take someone else's life? I don't think so. Whenever I see the stories of these murderers, I wish I could delete them from this world.

However, if I had the opportunity... if a Death Note really existed and was suddenly put in my hands, I don't think I could do it. I like to think of myself as a sensible person, but the fact is that kind of power could drive a person insane. We all saw what happened in Death Note. (Well, Light wasn't really all that sane from the beginning, but the Death Note didn't help.)

So....yeah. It's obviously one of those touchy, controversial topics. >_>

Nice stamp, by the way. xD

Well, I don't know. It would be interesting, knowing I have this kind of power, but I'm afraid it wiould kill my nerves. Literally, it would make me mad. Plus, as Light mentioned, "there's something about the Death Note that makes people use it". And I wouln't want that. I am usually against violence, but... Let's face it, all the world's judical systems are plain bad: people who deserved a cell long ago run around free, and some who were only at the wrong place in the wrong time or merely had a bad past or were disappointed by someone (remember that Howard guy at the beginning of "Minority Report"?) are caught. So of course some feel like they have to do something against that- the very reason why we sympathize with Light at the beginning. I myself began to see how twisted he was around the time he got L killed. As for myself... I can't decide if we all deserve to die, or nobody does.

Killing someone with a notebook isn't brave. Believing you have the right to kill someone isn't brave, it's egotistical and idiotic. Nobody has the right to kill, even if it is in the name of justice. There's a reason Light died at the end.
I wouldn't feel safe knowing someone was killing all the criminals because the judicial system in this country is so screwed up, sometimes people who have been arrested haven't done anything at all, but were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I don't want to live in fear of being killed because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I think anyone who wants to have a death note and actually use it is incredibly arrogant and/or naive.

You cannot kill all mankind with a Death Note alone. Especially not a even a minor part of DeviantArt members.
Even with the shinigamis eyes you would need to know the face of a person that most likely you will not see often here (beware, persons with a dA-ID). Also to kill 14,5 million members would TAKE YOU 447,53 YEARS!

OWNED!

If I had a real Death Note I would tear it to pieces and burn it and get it somewhere no one can ever find it ever.
Taking someone else's life in any way and with whatever reasons is wrong. Even as 'punishment' or whatever justice you think you carry out it is wrong.

Next to that I fear that even if you use it only to do "good", meaning you kill people you think are bad to society, if you get angry with someone and you kill people with that book on daily basic you're very close to writing the name of someone you argue with before realizing what you did.

Death is irreversibel, Never Ever think you do good by killing a bad man, lock him up in prison instead.

Juvenile-River In reply to Lunar-Alienism [2010-09-29 05:03:09 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure what the Japanese view of Hell is. Their legends may depict it as a place preferable to disappearing forever. I'm not sure.

Neither one is desirable, though. If you had the choice of going to Heaven or disappearing forever, which would you pick?

There's been an argument going around, and I've heard recited many times, that eventually people would get tired of living forever. I consider that to be complete nonsense.

People do not grow more tired of living as they become older. My grandfather probably loves his life now more than he ever did. He knows death is coming, and he looks forward to it only because it would mean:

a) Going to Heaven.
b) Meeting Jesus, the saints, and all of his friends and family who died before him.
c) Leaving behind all of the physical elderly problems he had in his mortal lifetime.

People who grow tired of living simply haven't found good reason to live. (Note: In my experience, younger adults are more likely to kill themselves than older adults. This should be the opposite if we did, in fact, grow tired of living in time.)

Juvenile-River In reply to Juvenile-River [2010-09-28 15:18:44 +0000 UTC]

One big problem with killing criminals: people can change.

Just because somebody did something horrible in the past doesn't mean they can't see the errors of their ways.

Often, criminals who are sent to prison, seeing how they've hit rock bottom, will begin to think that they might be responsible for the way their lives have played out.

In this desperate state of mind, looking for forgiveness, many will start reading the Bible and become Christians.

Funny story: I had a notebook I used as a "temporary death note", and I wrote the names of teachers I didn't like in there, as well as a few other people.

Those teachers all retired. ALL OF THEM. and those people? They left our town. (unfortunately, the two people came back )

Then I bought a death note. XD Amazon ftw.

I support Kira too, but to think that someone has that kind of power and can end your life in a heartbeat (literally) is kinda terrifying.

I don't think I would like one. I think I'd be too tempted to use it to keep one. I'd like for something other than blackness to happen after I die? I don't know.

But, on the other side of this argument, I would be okay with someone else 'deleting' all the criminals. I would probably even support them. (I was a Light/Kira fan, duh) I mean.... yeah. I think they'd get too greedy with power though. I think that would be the complication.

Sakmira [2010-09-28 14:00:19 +0000 UTC]

I will never understand the people who want the Death Note. They're basically saying they wish to murder without getting caught. It's not cool, it just goes to show how disgusting the human race can be.

It'd be an incredibly sad thing to own. That was the main point of the manga, that the DN wasn't a good tool because it corrupts people. Power in general corrupts.

Light didn't kill the criminals because he was noble. He killed them because he wanted to be a God, so many people forget this. In the beginning when he found out the DN was real, he was debating whether he should kill the students in his school that he deemed worthless or not, then decided not to because he shouldn't kill anyone close to him. So how anyone would support him, as well, is beyond me.
