Entertaining Elephants
I've seen a few elephants in Africa over the years of my visits, and posted many an image, and features such as Heffalumps!!!! from my visit to Tanzania. Elephants always seem to be in the news because of poaching of ivory, apparently rapidly declining numbers (but how do you count elephants?) and because they are one of the most recognisable icons of African and Indian wildlife. However, no matter what images and video/film footage you see, nothing is comparable to the real thing - live viewing of elephants in the wild. We were lucky enough to encounter some on several occasions at Phinda Vlei Lodge in Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa, this year. Three of a small herd that was strolling by our Lodge came up and drank from our plunge pool as we were sitting soaking up the photons.
