Description Magic MemoriesAs we approach the end of the safari, I thought I should share some of the very unusual images that I was lucky enough to capture, along with the stories behind them. These are all very high value memories for me of that extraordinary trip.

First off, here is an image of a serval (Leptailurus serval), a medium-sized wild cat (smaller than a cheetah) that we came across unexpectedly in the grasslands west of the Lemala Camp. According to the literature, the serval is a common cat in Africa south of the Sahara, but our guide, Alfred the Great, said that in the Serengeti, the serval was very uncommon, elusive, secretive, and very rarely spotted. I have never seen one in all my trips to southern Africa. This is one of the unique highlights of the trip. I took 20 plus shots as the cat stalked through long grass, looking for its prey of small mammals and birds. It wandered around unconcerned, occasionally looking towards the vehicle. This was

Very long distance shot, Katey, but not too bad.

Many Thanks

Yes, indeed, Robert. That was his/her intention when we spotted him/her. Probably headed for the hills behind - sanctuary - but has paused because of the heat.

Many Thanks

David

Oh thank you, David!! Β The elusive cheetah! Β I would be great ver the moon If I happened to get a shot like this in the wild...such magestic animals. Β You know, I would be so excited to see this beautiful creature, that with my luck and giddiness, I probably would have lost the chance for the shot. Β

This was a difficult one, Sheri - a very long distance away, at the limit of my camera and lens. But, the shot is OK - in focus, no blurring or heat haze. I really had to concentrate on this capture. I got another cheetah further South in the Serengeti, but in all the shots the eyes were closed - so not quite so interesting. Cheetah are very rare in the Serengeti.

Cheers

Yes, indeed, Linda. I would certainly like to be out there again. We may be going to South Africa again in July for some game viewing, but still at the planning stage.

Cheers
