Larla is one year old and this was her first litter, Linda. She is a very striking cat and, having borne and feed 7 kittens, two of which have passed away, she will have lost some weight. But, yes she is a pedigree Maine Coon, with "short" hair, and white and tabby markings. Her size, demeanour and ear tufts would also identify her as MC. She is reported by Pat to be a very good mother, giving birth unaided and dealing with after birth, grooming and feeding issues on her own. She has been a very attentive Mum as well - a very good sign. Larla will have another 2 or 3 at the most litters at yearly intervals before being "retired" to enjoy a quiet life. Maine Coons can vary a great deal in size, shape, markings, and colour but once fully grown they generally stand out as bigger than most other cats.
Cheers

I think the experts would say that short-haired MCs are very rare, and most will be long-haired or very long-haired. Their coats evolved to cope with harsh winter conditions and are unusual in that there are two layers, the inner layer, next to the skin, is very fine and shorter than the outer layer which is long or very long. If you very carefully comb them you can sometimes see the separate layers. One of the cats we saw at the breeder's house, called Lewis Hamilton incidentally - the cat that is, not the breeder - was very long haired compared to Tom and Arwen who were normally long-haired.

Yeah, that's what I would think too, that the short haired Coons are rare, David... and that possibly they are not full breed?... or they'd be more abundant.. I dunno... just has me wondering out loud, David.
I love the sound of their coats, tho,... the two layers. Those beautiful coats definitely belong on the animal (not people) ... not that anyone has ever worn a cat coat. But who knows... I recall, years ago, reading about this woman, (online) who would create clothes or other items for people, as keepsakes, made out of the customers' pet's shed. ! !!!!!! And another woman still, who'd create artwork for people and incorporate the ashes of her customers' loved ones, or pets, into the artwork.. I recall one of the paintings, it was a beach scene, at night, and the sand and shells on the beach, and the stars and moon in the sky, had the ashes incorporated into the paints, along with glitter and stuff.. I absolutely loved the idea and was fascinated by it. Tho I'm still not sure yet, if it came down to one of my own loved ones, human or fur baby... if I'd find that reality creepy or not..

Yes, indeed, and she is only one year old. Sam and Tabitha are from her first litter.
Many Thanks
