Recently, I was lucky enough to be able to buy a tilt shift lens for my Canon cameras. Its official designation is a Canon TS-E 24 mm f/3.5L II lens, and it has uses in landscape photography, architectural studies, macro and portrait work, and some very smart but rather off beat areas such as being able to photograph mirror reflections without actually being seen in the image - as per my trial run in the ID image Da(v)Id.

What is a tilt shift lens? All such lenses on the market, Canon or Nikon, or others, are marvels of optical engineering. Their function is to allow the lens elements to shift from side to side or up and down - the shift function - and to allow the lens elements to tilt from their normal parallel configuration with respect to the sensor plane. Because the lenses can rotate about its optical axis, the tilting can

Thank you for that. I'm very keen on textures and contrasts. I see you do quite a bit on the texture side yourself. I've been exploring the Topaz plugin for such with a view to expanding my use.Β

Cheers

Wonderful work here, David. The change to sepia gives it a very different mood, almost menacing.Β

Thank you, Sheri. I tried just plain B&W but it didn't feel quite right so I changed it to this quire deep sepia and I think that works. Imagine what it was like all those years ago - grim and ghastly!

Cheers

Castles were meant to be imposing, Mayumi - to keep the local population in thrall and as an expression of power. It still has that after all these years.

Many Thanks

David

It looks most beautiful at this angle; and with whatever editing you did. !

Interesting point, Linda, about beauty. Castles were meant to impress and to be an expression of power and authority, as well as places of refuge and defence in troubled times. However, that di not stop the builders and designers adding in elements of elegance. The corbelled turrets and the wall plaques added to that sense of architectural beauty.

Good point.
