Description A pair of dippers (Cinclus cinclus) were building a nest under a bridge over the Hass Burn in Auchencairn. I think this is the male, its beak full of moss for lining the nest. Dippers are found on rivers and streams and have a characteristic dipping action, bending their knees up and down. At first glance they look to be black and white, but their plumage is, in fact, as much brown and white.

Thank you kindly, Craig. Would you agree this is the male and the other the female? Difficult to tell.

I really don't know, I would guess the female would be the slightly larger of the two though. Did you get the 400mm prime lens, really sharp lens

I may have the two the wrong way around if the female is the slightly larger.Β

I got the 100-400mm Mark II zoom eventually and I notice a large difference in sharpness over the older version and a much faster response time. I'm trying to developΒ  best focus "case" settings for this lens because it is so fast at re-focusing. This new lens also works very well with the 1.4x extender with a barely perceptible drop off in sharpness. The real test will be in Africa later this year where I'm going for some more wildlife work. That 400 mm prime lens is still on my list if ever I can save up some more cash.

Many Thanks

David

I am sure your new lens will be amazing in Africa, they get sun over there for starters! I dont think you would need the prime as the one you have is a great lens and will be almost identical at 400.Β  The prime is great if just doing birds mostly and is good value for the results it can get, way betther than the 150-600 lenses imo.

More versatility for animal work, certainly. I'm hoping for some Sun today and to get out and practise some more.

Thank you kindly, Ann. It's the new lens that does most of the work, and me walking about a lot!

Well you have to walk about a lot to make sure the lens isn't sleeping on the job

Lucky to get this given the light, but I used that NeatImage software to remove most of the noise.

Many Thanks, M.

I haven't had time to play with Neat Image at all....

Gardening and outdoor work is calling me away from the computer
on most days...

The photos of the Dipper were great, you have mastered Neat Image wonderfully

When I was a child, a few years ago, LOL, it seemed like spring and summer
lasted forever...

Now, summer lasts about 1 day and struggles to get here....

You are very welcome David

Past perceptions of weather can be very misleading especially in climates like ours that are very variable. But, I sure would welcome some sun at the moment and a bit of warmth!

Cheers

LOL, I can't even send you any....we are under rain/ice/wind/snow/thunder/lightning all at once today....

I am lucky that I thrive in the cold, but the warmth would be great for the garden...
