In modern warfare, Unmanned Combat Units (UCU) such as the Intergalactic Marine Corps' Remote-Controlled Ground Vehicles (RGV) and other such support vehicles have become indispensable, as no interstellar state is capable of meeting current military challenges with the help of its armed citizens alone.
The necessary numerical size of the respective armed forces can only be achieved through the use of UCU. In addition, the equipment of the soldiers/warriors should be improved so that a single member of the armed forces can achieve the operational capability of an entire unit of days gone by. Ideally, these two approaches, quantity and quality, should be used.
Unlike the IUSP military, which tends to rely on remote-controlled "infantry units" such as the GMQ-101 "Guardian," the FJN's answer to modern security and military challenges are armored vehicles of all types, both manned and unmanned, depending on the tactical and strategic situation.
One of the most important, because it is the most numerous armored vehicle in the JNA, is the Metkatasha Armored Single-Person/Drone Personnel Carrier(ASP/D PC).
The Metkatash (speaker's note: Goa'uld term for chariots as they were common in their days on Tau'ri) is a small armored vehicle for one person that can also be used as a remotely controlled UCU if needed (speaker's note: like almost all interstellar powers, the FJN does not use AI, drones are always remotely controlled units).
With an average armor thickness of 55 mm made of naquadah trinium, with frontal armor as thick as 125 mm, the Metkatasha is a comparatively heavily armored vehicle for its size. Infantry weapons, whether conventional projectile weapons or energy weapons such as the staff weapon, are more or less ineffective against this armor.
Thanks to the Ta Duon Mk IX defense shield system, the Metkatasha is also protected against anti-armor weapon systems at least to the extent that the vehicle can survive indirect hits and grazing shots. However, the Metkatasha has nothing to counter a direct hit from an anti-tank weapon except its high maneuverability. The armor and shield system are designed solely for protection against infantry weapons.
The Metkatasha is powered by a gravimetric Ta Jafemar Mk XXVII engine, which allows the Metkatasha to be used as an all-terrain vehicle on land, sea and underwater.
On land, the Metkatasha reaches a top speed of 360 km/h in open terrain, while on the high seas it can reach 220 km/h and 75 km/h underwater. At the same time, a Metkatasha is maneuverable enough, at a correspondingly reduced speed, to maneuver even in the densest forests or urban environments.
Thanks to the support of the propulsion system by gravimetric thrusters of the Jafrudume type, the Metkatasha can also be used in mountains, deserts, swamps, etc. without any problems. During underwater patrols, a maximum diving depth of 230 meters can be reached.
The armament of the Metkatasha consists of a light staff turret for vehicles with a single 80 mm staff cannon. Caliber and penetrating power of the turret thus correspond to the Ma'Tok staff weapon infantry weapon standards. However, the turret has a firing rate three times higher and a range ten times greater than the ordinary staff weapon. The Metkatasha is therefore mainly designed for use against infantry and can only be used against armored targets to a limited extent.
The name Metkatasha, chariot, was chosen for a reason. This single-person armored vehicle can be used for coordinated ground assaults, fire support to infantry units, armed reconnaissance, patrols, and escort missions. However, the vehicles are also used simply to transport individual JNA warriors, like the chariots of the Tau'ri thousands of years ago. Nominally, therefore, each Jaffa warrior in the field has his own Metkatasha at his disposal. In practice, also due to the fact that there are also other transport possibilities, the number of Mekatasha in action is much more limited.
Should the tactical/strategic situation require it, such as having more Metkatasha available than Warriors, these vehicles can also easily be used as remote-controlled drone units. As with the IUSP military, remote control is via RECNI system (speaker's Note: Remote Control via Neural Interface, though the Jaffa version relies less on Asgard or Alteran technology than the IUSP, and more on Goa'uld technology), allowing a single operator to control multiple vehicles simultaneously, depending on the tactical situation.
In a remotely piloted capacity, the Metkatasha parallels the IST-14 and IST-16 counterparts within the IUSP-Marines Corps. These assets serve as direct armored infantry support vehicles, enhancing warrior capabilities.
Advantages include heightened sensor arrays and direct data links, offering superior environmental awareness compared to individual warriors' personal sensor units.
In addition, the Metkatasha has shields that are three times as strong as personal shields, providing warriors with additional protection, especially against enemy fire beyond their own weapon's range. In particularly difficult situations, the heavily armored Metkatasha can also serve as direct cover for the warriors.
The 80-mm turret is, of course, also capable of providing active support to the JNA's warriors under remote control. The turret is particularly effective as fire support in anti-aircraft operations as well as in delivering barrage fire against enemy infantry. Against armored targets, as mentioned, the 80-mm turret is of very limited use, which also applies to the IST-14 and IST-16 of the IUSP Marine Corps.
