Description Another wallpaper of my all-time favourite paintings, The Accolade by Edmund Blair Leighton, only this time it's a detail shot. When I first saw this many years ago, (long before I was ever interested in art), it was being sold as a poster, and my brother literally had to drag me away from it, lol!

I'm not sure which impresses me more, the lady's dress, or all that chain mail!!

I guess it's the whole knights-and-their-ladies thing that just makes me happy, sigh... Plus it's loads of fun imagining scenarios for this sort of scene. Why is she knighting him? Is she a princess? A queen? Did he rescue her from an evil villain, and now she's rewarding him with a knighthood? Did he win a jousting contest, or is she accepting the hand of a suitor? The list goes on...

Also a favorite painting of mine.  ^_^ I have a print of it hanging on the wall at my left right now.

hi olde-fashonied-

i've sent you a post regarding your art of the accolade i can only describe as haunting (in a marvelous way...like a beautiful waltz...)

the piece is the one " i dreamt...". i'm not sure how this web site works but i would do anything (mostly?) to get some sort of print of that...

bought another piece that has a similar theme and not sure rather to send it back because your piece would be the only thing that could complete the "arrangement"...the "feeling and movement"...i hope you can e-mail me one whay or the other...

Thank you for your kind words! At present however, I am not set up for enabling prints, and don't plan to change this any time in the immediately foreseeable future. I'm sorry for any inconvenience, and again, thank you for your interest!

I love this painting! The detail always blows me away. My British Literature teacher in high school had this hanging on the wall in her classroom and I could never stop looking at it

Ha ha, the first time I saw it was in one of those poster flip-through things in a store, and I couldn't stop looking at it, either, LOL!

Glad you like it; thanks for the comment!

Awesome job! This is definitely one of my favorite works of art of all time as well. It's poignant, thought-provoking and just plain old romantic.

I love Edmund Leighton's artwork! This one is beautiful! I like how you placed them against a black background so they're the entire focus. I imagine she's a princess knighting him for some valient deed and she greatly admires him or perhaps is in love with him.

I love his work, too! So classically romantic. *sigh*

Thank you! I'm glad you like the black background. I was elated when I found such a hi-res copy, and the details that are visible deserve more attention than they usually get IMO! I can't believe all that chain mail!

It does show amazing detail, I agree. I can't imagine how long the chain mail took!

We had to do some sort of analysis of this picture way back in year 9 (heaven knows what we came up with, though! ) I like to think that he's being knighted for slaying some fearsome dragon... I'm not sure that she'd be knighting anyone for proposing to her... unless of course she wants him to propose, and he's of too low a rank (so easily remedied!)

Ohhh, I'm almost jealous!! That sounds like loads of fun, to me. I'd have a blast with that assignment!!

Year 9??

We did a whole subject on the middle ages, in society and environment and english. So we looked at poetry and writing and movies and such stuff as well. It was good fun.

Does it help if I say I was 14?
