Love your use of Blue and Red to create it - The Mixing Hot & Cold colors def makes it stand out among others !

What I did was throw an "underpainting" of watercolor on the page, then render on top with pens and Prismacolor White. I try to constrain myself with the watercolor, and make it match my shading.
