Description Another Paint comic from me. I drew this while thinking of the fact that the Tiger tank's armor was so strong that tanks like Shermans were pretty useless against them.
I started drawing this some months ago, noticed it yesterday and finished it at last.

Even then they had to be well within the range of the 88mm. Also if the Firefly missed, due to how bad the ergonomics are by putting such a gun on the tank (which the Sherman wasn't designed to house) they had to get it right on the first shot or... see above comic.

It didn't help that each Tiger had some of the best tank crews in the war crewing the things... and most of the time the Shermans were crewed by 'several month wonders' and died... a lot.

ehh that is true but the thing about shermans was that they may have lacked quality the made up for it in quantity.

Nice comic, lucky for the tiger the sherman wasn't a firefly, though they were few in number.

Thanks! I think I'll look after the Firefly now, its strenght seems like common knowledge around here.

Kinda hard to believe that an old Paint comic can be still - relatively - popular.

that was only the British and it wasn't that effective against tiger front armor.

and a Sherman with a 157mm cannon looks damn silly, lazy British should have built there own goddamned tank around the 17 pounder no modified ours..

also the Germans were already loosing, and tigers started being more and more rare as need for constant heavy maintenance caused them to break down.

Yea, the brits didn't really have the time or money to devolve their own tank during the war.

Well not any GOOD tanks anyway. Sherman was.. mechanically sound at lest....

Actually the Germans (as in all of them) were kind of sickened by the Sherman. It was so bad in combat that in all likelihood that the soldiers thought it was a WARCRIME to even bring into combat as a last stand.

It was THAT underpowered.

Our tiger was not that armoured at all the American tanks were just that bad

The only saving grace for the Sherman was it's gun stabilizer. The Germans were sort of perplexed at how bad practically everything else was and the stabilizer was pretty much insane for it's time...

Yea, seems they paid to much time into the stabilizerΒ

Then again the US was using the same Cruiser/Infantry concept as the British were using. :\

That ideology died when Germany crushed Poland like a hurricane against sticks. However, this would cement that the US would make an advantage of this technology whenever they could. The big reason the M1 series have such great accuracy against everything else is because they put the best stabilizer and mate it with the best FCS the designers could grab.

Also, the M1 series of tanks are some of the best sold tanks in the world that came from the west. Everyone and their fucking brother who got these loved them.

It's just the damn price tag...

Anal NinjaDork cannot let this terrible history mistake pass unchallenged!!!!!!

Actually, Shermans became fairly effective when the "Firefly" configuration came out: replacing the standard main gun with a 157mm anti-tank gun, complete with AP ammunition.

MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! ANAL NINJADORK HAS STRUCK AGAIN!!!!!!!

Well the Firefly was horribly inaccurate and famous for ammo storage breakdowns. That gun could barely hit a schurch wall at Point blank due to terrible gun ergonomics. It was entirely useless against a Tiger I's frontal armour from anywhere exceeding about 900 meter range, and a Tiger Is gun had an effective range of 3000 meters when combatting Shermans, which is esentially what the Firefly was.

Thats a good picture but the tiger had (i think it did) weak rear amour so the Sherman could flank it.but any way good picture

If it could get there fast enough before being blown apart by the gun first...

Usually not.

OldNile In reply to fudgeyfudge [2007-11-04 16:34:20 +0000 UTC]

True, most tanks have weak rear armour, so that would be the best area to shoot. I depicted a frontal attack in the comic, and I guess Shermans were as much effective against Tigers in reality as seen above.
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated.

Thanks. I had some work on the tanks, especially the Tiger. I had a good cutaway schematic picture of the interior, but drawing all that would have been difficult.
