Thank you so much!

I just love these little fluff balls. My personal favorite is still this one, taken on the same day:

No problem! The more (comments), the merrier!

Yes, I do find long-tailed tits in particular to be more challenging to photograph than some of their relatives. So you can imagine my joy when I found the spot where they were building their nest. Lots of great opportunities to get close to them without disturbing them too much.

Going back to my earlier comment I need to correct what I said. The spot where I saw them was as I described, but thinking about it I remembered the thing about the nest wrong. I got it mixed up with a fieldfare nest, and I'm not sure I actually found out where the long-tailed tits were building theirs. Sorry about the confusion.

No worries, I have never seen a fieldfare.
You are so lucky with you bird finds!Β Β

Funny enough I couldn't see the actual nest even though it was less than two meters above ground in a small conifer. I could tell where it was though, so I tried to get as close as possible to a few nearby branches that they always approached prior to carrying more construction material to the nest.

I agree - small birds are much more fidgety, which in addition to their small size makes it hard to nail the focus. Some on the other hand are hard to spot but don't mind you getting close at all, like firecrests and goldcrests. The noises they make are barely audible for most people (and completely inaudible to others), and because of their extremely low weight the branches barely move at all when they're jumping from one to another. Both of these I have only seen (and photographed) once in my life, but I've found them incredibly impressive despite their small size. If you ever come across one of these, be sure to treasure the moment!

In any case, I can't wait to see more of your photography! Hopefully you'll be able to capture many more beautiful bird moments. (:

Thanks! Indeed they are. I was lucky enough to notice a spot where a pair had been collecting nesting material, so I could get close and get a decent amount of good shots over the course of several days. Haven't seen any of them since then, though.

Kann man so sagen...

Ich habe die in den letzten Jahren auch nicht mehr so oft vor die Kamera bekommen, deshalb bin ich jetzt umso glücklicher, dass ich weiß, wo ich ihnen "auflauern" kann...

Thanks for your comment!

Indeed, I guess that's one reason they can deal with freezing temperatures so well. Not that it's cold these days... Temps rose from "winter jacket mandatory" to "short-sleeved shirts, yay!" in a few days.
