That's cool, no I don't have the spec sheet in front of me but I'll take it you do!

LOL

I figured some of the larger mechs are near 2 stories tall but get smaller by tonnage.

REALLY.... So when I tell you that I have my own RPC and group called the 504 Parachute Battlemech Brigade ( run by my PC Lt Col Daphne McEvedy-Wilde ) and we are the parachute brigade from the old star league 82 Parachute BattleMech division that took off with Kerensky but ran into a little disagreement and and returned home to the succession wars by way of Kurita space and because certain "clans" have a dislike for us ( namely Clans Widowmaker  & Wolf ) because they knew us as members of Clan Wolverine.

Also that my command lance (modified) runs a MAD-51R Marauder III (100 tons 3/5 movement w/ 2 ER PPC's, 2 LG Pulse lasers, 4 er Medium lasers 1 AC20 LBX, )

1 85 ton BMR-6W Battlemasters ( dual ER-PPC's, 6 Med Pulse lasers twin SRM-6's with tandem charge warheads)

1 100 ton  Behemoth ( 3 ER PPC's 2 Gauss rifles)

1 75 ton FRY-2K Fryer Tuck ("Archer variant"  7 LRM 15's with swarm missiles 2 Med pulse lasers )

1 55ton NHK-00 Nighthawk LAM ( Upgraded Shadowhawk LAM variant prototype )

1 25ton (Mantis) Locust ( 1- ER-Large laser, 6 ER small lasers )

The rest of the brigade is posted on the Solaris 7 website.

Kinda funny too cuz I used to work for FASA way way way back when Battletech was still a board game with cardboard picture figures on a hex map rolling dice. I even helped create the 3050 & 3055 tech manuals ( mostly configs for mechs)

Like you, I love the Marauder design, but when I literally uncovered the Lost Tech Behemoth in a Battletech/Mechwarrior game it became my all time favorite weapon!

Here are two pieces I made featuring the 200 Ton Archangel "Azrael" Battlestation it...

I'll try and make time to post the first and second generation specs too.

Seen them and requested/showcased them in Clearing-House ( thank you BTW)

Truthfully the remind me of when I was making an Arty Mech ( sorta ) and put two long toms on it and then said " now WTF do I do"

BTW you think rotary Ac's are bad.. do NOT get caught in a long tom barrage. That gets real nasty real quick and there is no way to fight your way out just dig in or run like hell.

OliverInk In reply to Eric-S-Huffman [2019-08-09 20:03:32 +0000 UTC]

I think your Friar Tuck mech is truly formidable, especially with its 75 hit salvo potential with 15 chance for head hits/consciousness rolls.

It would definitely have to be taken out of play asap by any adversary wanting to stand a chance.

On a good day, I'd do my best to swarm it with a few 25 ton mechs with pulse lasers.

Now that I think on it, I recall something similar happening in a game I was beaten in, there's no forgetting the dreaded sound of dice being rolled for all those 75 LRM 5 swarn missiles, head hits, and consciousness rolls.

Eric-S-Huffman In reply to OliverInk [2019-08-10 17:00:38 +0000 UTC]

I agree with you that it is a primary target... Which is sorta the plan since I usually have the Behemoth or something similar ( UrbanMechs are great for this role too since mine run a LG Pulse Laszer instead of an Ac and a pisspot full of small pulses to ravage. ETC)designed for heavy combat providing covering fire for it while it salvos. )

It's been around long enough and others have had ideas along the same lines as I have when it comes to a missle support mech.

Yep, raining down death and dismemberment is fun and all, but for those on the receiving end it's quite a bad day at the office.

Eric-S-Huffman In reply to OliverInk [2019-08-11 18:20:30 +0000 UTC]

Yes but one thing to remember doing death from above is that it CAn fail and the attacking unit does take damage as well. I liek taking something ouit at range before they get close enough to kill me. HOWEVER saying that it is kinda ironic I LOVE doing that with LAM's ( the Nighthawk LAM I have LOVES doing it especially to Assults and heavy's they least expect it)

Yeah, DFAs are fun but disastrous on a bad roll.

I'm with you on getting your licks in before you get  to the center of the tootsie roll. LOL

I've played LAMs and was just looking at them online to see which sounded best. It's been some time, but I was shown how to play a Phoenix Hawk LAM, which was a lot of fun. I'd love to hear of your own Nighthawk LAM since I'm not very up on them or how best they can be designed.

I'll see about digging out the sheet for the NightHawk.  but basically it is a clan tech modified 55 tone ShadowHawk made into a LAM. I was going to finish the Trio ( Griffin n Wolverine) but never got around to it.

OliverInk In reply to Eric-S-Huffman [2019-08-12 19:14:40 +0000 UTC]

I'd love to read the NightHawk LAM info!

I've read that 55 ton LAMS are as big as they go, which is a decent size to make it more than an offensive mosquito, as well as have enough armor to survive for a while.

Eric-S-Huffman In reply to OliverInk [2019-08-12 20:43:40 +0000 UTC]

I'll dig it out this evening ( i hope) assumning my cat allows me to.

55 tons are the max tonnage you can make one. acording to the rule book ( which i sorta can understand ) and The NightHawk runs mostly energy weapons since I use it for scouting and LRRP missions.

I see your LAM is set up to get up close and personal to deal out the most punishment, which with the tandem warheads would be a problem for a mech on the receiving end.

Eric-S-Huffman In reply to OliverInk [2019-08-13 20:40:14 +0000 UTC]

Actually I save those for Coupe shots. The LG Pulse os my main ranged weapon replacing both the AC/5 and LRM from the original Shadowhawk. I doubled down on the Meds and made them pulse ( like the Large) to get that -2 to hit modifier ( along with the -1 additional one for the targeting computer for a total of -3 to hit!) and brought in the smalls for close in extra hit ability ( which is 5 damage exactly the same as a 3025 Martel medium laser) Without firing the smalls I pretty much stay off the heat scale too ( depending on movement ) and after the ranging from all those lasers thats when I pop the SRM 6 pack and knock the silly thing out. Also remember it's a streak system so no lock means no fire ( and no heat) and that conserves ammo even for a mech that goes far out of range of most supply depots.

Also the PET system is installed so if needs be I can use it as an arty spotter, The ECM hides it and even for a sapper with the probe too. all in a LAM that if bad things happen it shoots, changes and scoots straight up and stays there out of even a Rifelemans range

WOW!

Quite impressive!

The prize of my Mech collection is an original 200 Ton Behemoth from back when it was called Battledroids, later renamed Battletech due to copyright issues with Robotech.

I've actually done a couple of art pieces featuring that monster mech, wrote about my gaming experiences too.

The games I played in were a mix of Battletech and Mechwarrior, 3055 manuals, Clan Tech, and Lost Tech.

My fav config for it was 4 Gauss Cannons in the turret, 3 Large Pulse Lasers in each arm and a machine gun for up close and personal.

However, that all changed when our team faced off against the same Mech loaded up with Rotary Autocannons all the way around and laid utter waste to our best laid plans.

Another thing I learned was that speed it like armor.... a whole bunch of small mechs that had top movement and 1 pulse laser each was near impossible to hit, delivering "death by woodpecker" assaults on our forces.

Big is good but balanced forces can be optimal much of the time, which your own Brigade is well designed to employ.

Speaking of FASA, I love Star Trek Combat Simulator they came out with, and have a good collection of starships.

A much faster and simpler game to play than Star Fleet Battles.

Thanks for the memories!

I still play but refuse to do any of that Wizkids crap with logger mechs and other really crappy stuff they tried shoving down out throats. and what the did to the real mechs, clans and even comstar/word of Blake makes me wanna cry after all the work we put into getting stuff right.

Speed and armor are trad offs. lots depend on other factors like terrain, weather, air control and that pesky thing called Mission to define with is more important when. I like lights with huge movemenst too and use them ruthlessly for backbiting ( what you call woodpecking) but I run the whole shebang using dropships, fighters ( 23 fighter group flying ONLY "modified" Stiingrays ) Armor ( Pattons, Rommels, Burkes Gabrials are trash compared to Creightons ) and even Elementals ( no SRMS or Small lasers but one Med Laser in combat config ) and then suppord, carriers, ammo carriers and even an MASH unit.

I saw "Clicky Mech" and was not impressed after playing once.

Wizkids trying to reinvent mechs was ill conceived.

Sure I love the idea of faster game play, that's fine with me, but basically dumbing down traditional Battletech is not something I care to invest time and energy into.

Given you took an active role in FASA's tech manuals, I share your thoughts on how the Wizkids version is a slap in the face to traditional game designers and players.

Yep, I've had the real pleasure to play in some massive games with dropships, fighters, vehicles, etc!

Eric-S-Huffman In reply to OliverInk [2019-08-10 17:17:09 +0000 UTC]

Thing is when I first started at FASA Battletech was about as dumbed down as you could get for a board game. Hell the little cardboard cutouts and artworks were so simple it was almost laughable. Even the very first video game ( CresentHawks inception ~ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BattleTe… ) was so simple as to be laughable BUT was super important as it allowed you to change out and upgrade you mech with different configs.. which was the precursor to the Clans and such))

I personally loved doing and going to conventions ( where I was recruited by the FASA rep after the convention was over and a few beers later) and playing against others who played because they wanted to not cuz they were forced to and some of those games got really cool and fun with the different tactical environments, maps minds working tactics and all sorts of arguments over the simplest of things in the game.) and they all went from simple one on one or Lance battles to huge invasions starting with Warships/jump-ships down to drop-ships and fighter intercepts to landings ( opposed and unopposed) to to mission objectives or full planet takeover.  I still like going when I can but havent have the time in a while  but now am gonna have to make some more to go play again...

I first played Battletech as a kid at conventions too.

Lots of epic gaming to be sure!

I even recall the first lead mech I got, an Annihilator, which I hand painted, and was so slow and underwhelming that I traded up for some more playable 3055 mechs.

We even had a few game shops around the DFW area that I teamed up with others for some decent experience in dividing up tonnage allotments.
