I think artists of all kinds often feel this as there is a conflict between what you are and what society expects of you. Ultimately you can only be yourself, and why should you have to be someone you are not. This is so powerful.

very true. especially the area of business im working for pushes my limits everyday. i feel like they think im a weirdo because i dont have the same ambitions as they have. I need to learn to shut my mouth i guess...

I am the same - my day job pushes me to my limits and more often than not it goes unappreciated. I used to feel weird about not having ambitions at work, but when I look at what a lot of my colleagues see as success I have realised that with my art I am far more ambitious than they ever will be. Anyone can have relative success at work by doing what they are told all the time, but in the end all you are is a big fish in a small pond - I've see people go away and come back because they simply can't hack it out in the world. I try to keep my moth shut but sometimes emotion gets the better of me - I want to do a good job but am frustrated when I am not allowed to. I think artists can be very self destructive, but in a way without that we would not be able to create what we do. All I can say is try to camouflage yourself in everyday life as most people can't ccept difference, but try to stay true to yourself - that is what makes you an individual and what makes your art wonderful.
