I lit the back with a lighter to deepen the color and create bubbles.

I'm really impressed with this lighter effect, I first thought you'd used Photoshop to make those bubbles this time. It's such a cool technique, I might try it some day too

just be warned, right before the bubble forms it makes a really nasty popping sound, so don't drop it

Yeah, it is most likely, or it could be the chemicals reacting to the heat (hydrogen pop test and all that jazz)

Hey, That reminds me of a project I have been wanting to try. Drops of ink in a large clear contaner full of water. I can take pics of the ink clouds with my DSLR now. I can't find a container that is right for the project though.

I have a large clear glass bowl. It's for cooking though & it has a ton of scratches in it & would be hard to se through from a camera. Plus I don't want to get ink in a bowl that is used for cooking all the time.

I tried to do mine in an old 20 gallon aquarium that I kept my bearded dragon in when his cage was getting cleaned. They might have like a 10 gallon or something at walmart for you 
You're going to need lots of light though. I think that's why I failed. I was shooting with florescent lights. I should have waited until day and shot outside or near a window.

Great Idea, I might try that aquarium idea. I have a large 30gal critter cage. It has a sticker that says not to fill with water though or it could break...
