Description i know ,i know i know! that render is TOO grainy! but i dont hav time for now and i thought uploading a preview render would be enough to tell how the model will look like!

There'll be a scene (i dont modeled it yett..), and even cars have 1:1 scales, they still look like toy cars.(because of the materials i've used) but dont worry im still workin on the model. repeat: THAT'S A PREVIEW render!!!!!(what do u expect from a 5min render frame!! )
(modeled in catia, rendered in fryrender as always..)

sayonara for now..follow my and updates!

hi, sleek cars! i want to try catia but im used to max and vray, can i export models from catia to max?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

omerksx In reply to JamesBrett [2011-01-30 15:59:08 +0000 UTC]

yes you can. but not directly XD
catia is an industrial desgin software. (not based on polygons)
max is a visual 3d software which is fully based on polygon modeling and such.

im usin another software called "Rhinoceros" to export from catia to max.
CATIA>>*.stp file>>>Rhino>>obj>>MAX

like this.

ah so it is via Rhino! thank you! i really want to try catia Imagine and shape (IMA) because it looks very intuitive and clean but i want to render with Vray too.

go for it ! go go go imagine and shape is as powerful as cinema4d's hyperNurbs good decision. My car models r modeled in imagine and shape module too !

i am definitely going to do it now! i havnt seen hypernurbs in cinema 4d (i will youtube it after i type this). so do you use any of the other work benches in catia when making a car? i have seen freestyle and generative shape design (GSD) but im not sure what the differences are between them and imagnie & shape? and what benches are used for car design in general. i also looked at your jet models which are also really sleek did you use IMA for them too?

omerksx In reply to JamesBrett [2011-02-03 02:21:57 +0000 UTC]

my jet model is some kind of an amateur work XD its a hybrid. i both used GSD and IMA to model it. To explain the exact difference between IMA and GSD, theyr using completely different modeling "logics". IMA is based on pullin , dividin, reshaping Subdivision surfaces while GSD is completely parametric. a note= none of my models modeled in only IMA.! need to work with GSD to get sharp and more "produceable" results !

JamesBrett In reply to omerksx [2011-02-03 11:05:14 +0000 UTC]

ah its starting to make sense now. So you start with IMA then change over to GSD bench to tighten it all up? i downloaded the catia documentation last night so i will be reading it today. the possibilities are exciting with these tools. one more question though, if i had a side view and top view sketch of a car would it make more sense to start in GSD right away or stretch out a quick form with IMA?

thanks again for the info

omerksx In reply to JamesBrett [2011-02-04 20:33:10 +0000 UTC]

i prefer to start with IMA.Because fitting a GSD surface to an IMA is hard as hell
and do not try to start with a sketch, if u gonna start with IMA.
as an example have a look at this>>> [link]
this car is completely modeled on GSD, and an advice : if u gonna model a car which has sharp curves, do not prefer IMA. Its not easy to make accurate SHARP edges in IMA.

and catia documentation doesnt hav the knowledge ur lookin for..(u need experience more than knowledge!!)

JamesBrett In reply to omerksx [2011-02-05 14:23:20 +0000 UTC]

cool! i checked your link. so cars that are mostly rounded are better with IMA and those with sharp turns in the forms are better with GSD. Do you know of any useful places online to learn catia?

tried to find online tutorials about catia... but they're nothing but blaa blaa blaa.. read the doc u've downloaded. And u can look for video tutorials on youtube, 1 of the 100 videos r useful for catia learners like u

It looks good. Really good! The only thing i didin't like much is that the windcreen is too round on the top. But that's just my oppinion.

As a suggestion, when you do the final render, you should put two cars (just as these one) but with one of them showing the rear. It would look really good.

Cangratulations, again.
