Final Fantasy XIII is an upcoming installment in the Final Fantasy series, and is the first of the series to be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Unveiled at E3 2006, the game is the flagship of Square Enix's Fabula Nova Crystallis project. Set to be released on December 17, 2009 in Japan and on Spring 2010 in North America.

- Lightning — Announced by Square Enix as the protagonist of the game.

- Snow Villiers — Leader of an anti-governmental resistance group and a l'Cie.

- Oerba Dia Vanille— A young and spirited girl with autumn red hair tied up in pigtails, shes a citizen of Pulse and ostensibly a subject of great interest to both the Holy Government and the resistance group led by Snow Villiers.

- Sazh Katzroy — A middle-aged man with dark skin and afro hair. He owns a baby Chocobo that has been said to live in his hair.

- Hope Estheim — A young boy with silvery-blonde hair who along with his mother belonged to the group of exiles carried in the train that Lightning stopped. He wields boomerangs in battle.

- Serah Farron — A teenage girl who wears a red skirt, a white top and her strawberry blonde hair tied in a ponytail. She is Lightning's sister and Snow's fiancée.
