It's pretty self-explanitory.It's a speed-painting to commemorate my being serious about getting into Kendo.

That looks more like kenjutsu but its pretty close to kendo's fighting style. When you fight in kendo you must always keep an excellent posture. Still this is a nice concept.

Why would you want to do that? Just go to flickr or another image search-engine and look for Kendo photos to draw.

I randomly stumbled upon your site and found that (I'm assuming), you've visited Miami shidogakkuin, right? Considering this was done over a year ago, I figure you've decided you're going to practice or not.
In any case, you've probably already discovered that there wouldn't be any reason for the person on the left side of the picture to block the other person. The person on the right has already missed by his own personal flaw. If the person on the left had not blocked, the right person would not have gained a point from shinpan anyway. (Also, the right person is in the air, it seems and is not using fumikomi; a basic of kendo footwork.)
I am not speaking as a superior at all, I just wish to provide you with constructive criticism.
Have you heard of Nabeshima Cup? I will be attending this year! I am very excited~

It's just a painting. Of course the picture isn't kendo-perfect; they're using swords! Hahaha.
I've been with Shidogakuin Miami for 14 months now. Do you practice with Orlando Kendo Kai? (or Club; whatever it is now.) I just went to the Florida Taikai in Titusville at the end of February. Good luck at the Nabeshima cup.

You have tested, I imagine. Do you have shodan or ikkyu, yet?

No, I just went for sankyu at the tournament and passed. I guess I have to start somewhere, so I didn't bother with seeing if I could go for nikyu or ikkyu. I'm in no rush, lol.
The tournament was fun, though. I met a bunch of the SB Kendo people and got compliments from Maeda-sensei as well as getting my butt kicked my Hyun-sensei in the team matches.
I'm sure we'll meet some day. Take care until then.

Well, I practiced with OKK for 2 years, but OKK has been disbanded as of a year or so ago because of some management issues. Prior to that, I practiced at Sakuragaoka gakko kendobu in Yokohama, Yamato-shi, Japan for about 13 years. Anyway, since last year, I've been practicing on my own and, occasionally with Renshinkan in Satellite Beach (with one of my kouhai, Phil, the one who organized the Florida taikai this year). Hopefully, I will do keiko with you sometime!

Not yet. I need to get more information, but nobody is taking my calls or returning my e-mails. Hopefully I'll be practicing pretty soon.

Yeah, getting started is hard. It took me three years between when I knew I was going to practice and actually finding a place, but I got lucky; found a small club not too far away.
