Ferona is mostly based on Australia and New Zealand so there had to be a line based on ratites! And no better way to do this than to introduce them as the first Route 1 bird line to not be part Flying type. To make up for it, this line gets a unique ability that gives them increased power on their physical Flying type attacks.
The color of this guy is based on the Wiki berry, because I imagine that would be the Pokemon equivalent of the Kiwi fruit. The shiny is based on the color of the Razz berry.
