Description Holly felt Carla roll over top of her and in the process grab her arms. Before she could react, Carla had flipped herself on to Holly' s back and painfully locked her arms up behind her. When Carla bridged up it brought more pain to Holly' s shoulders.  Holly’s instincts took over and she tried to bridge using her forehead and legs but leverage was not on her side.  Carla easily drover her back down to the mat and kept the pressure on.

“Ok, Carla I give……you’re too tough for me on this one.”  she called out, gaining herself a release from the Carla’s hold.  She felt Carla roll off of her and Holly used the time to lay face down on the mat and compose herself, shaking her arms.

In a normal match Holly would have fought on some more.  The hold was painful, but she felt she could withstand it a while longer while she looked for escape or weakness.  Today, though she was starting to get a sense of what was happening and decided to conserve her strength and energy.  If she was going to keep trying, success or fail, she was going to do it with as much stamina as she could.  She was going to fight back at every chance she could, not just wear herself out to become a practice dummy.  She knew Allison would only give her a finite number of chances and right now she’d used too many of them too quickly.  She might not win many, but the object was to only get one.   She needed to keep digging in to do that.

“Ok, Steph… your turn to put her through her paces.” Carla said as she strode toward the corner and Stephanie prepared to take her place.

“Easy Carla, once we are done here it’s back to you and me………. I think Im one up on you tonight.”

Allison listened to the two of them banter and watched as Holly slowly worked her way to her hands and knees, preparing for the next round .  It was smart to give in quickly and Allison couldn’t help but allow a bit of a smile. She liked Holly a lot and soon she’d have to tell her ‘thanks, but no thanks’ and that would be painful for them both.  Still she admired Holly for not just jobbing out to these girls.  She was going to give it everything she had until she physically couldn’t do it any more or Allison had seen enough.   Allison had a feeling the latter would come in to play before the former.

Another really good piece!!!  Loved it!!!  Your art just keeps getting better and better.

I keep bringing up the same point ... and it's fun how everyone can take different things away from this particular story arc, but even though I think the focus is supposed to be on Holly, and whether or not she is going to be able to cut it as an addition to Allison's tournament roster, I keep coming back to Carla!

She looks so good!!!  Better than I thought she'd be.  Allison may have caught a diamond in the rough in the unexpected prowess of Stephanie, but let's not overlook Carla!!!!

Thank you.   This really is about Holly but I recognized that is was an opportunity to showcase Carla as well.   She's making the most of her newfound opportunity.  She's tuning up to put it to one of Katie's girls!

I have to give Holly this much... she's taking it like a big girl.  And this has got to be tough.  Not only is she getting beat six ways from Sunday, but listen to the way Carla and Steph are talking.  I don't think they mean to be... well, mean... but talking about how the two of them are going to go at it after this is over?  They may not have intended it, but that's pretty cold.  Almost like saying the two of us will have a REAL fight after we get done slapping this jobber around.

I love your take here.  It seems to be exactly what is happening

I've got to agree with this and it's why I keep saying this isn't a good look for Allison. Sure, see whether Holly's got what it takes.

But there's no need to rub it in like this nor to go about it in this manner. Even if this 'works', I'm kind of disappointed in Allison in particular for not going about it in a different way.

Particularly when we have the comparison of how she went about testing Stephanie's skills.

I can't disagree with this.  Not completely, anyway.  The one thing I would argue is that I don't see much rubbing it in.  It's just the four of them here.  It's not like Holly's being publicly shamed.

But it's definitely a trial by fire approach, and I agree it's pretty harsh.  My take on it is that Allison wanted to see Holly stiffen and fight back.  To sort of pound a fist down on the canvas and say, I'm not taking this, anymore!

It hasn't happened, yet.  And, honestly, it's starting to look like it's not going to.

True - I was thinking more what you said about Stephanie and Carla bantering, I think. But no, this isn't public shaming.

And I can't disagree entirely either, albeit I think part of Allison actually wants to see Holly just give up. Which is why I feel this is particularly harsh. Holly steeled herself to offer to fight and this is her reward.

As for what Holly does, I suppose it depends. She certainly seemed to be steeling herself for something but the question remains whether she's got what it takes to beat Stephanie. Oh well, guess we will see!

Thanks for the thoughts.  I really enjoy reading everyone's take on how this is going down.   Is it right? Is it harsh?  Is it mean?  I love all these little questions.   My only thing to add as it compares to Stephanie is she had a pretty good idea Stephanie had been in the battles before and knew what she had been through.  Deep down she felt if Stephanie could get her head around her past she'd be good to go.   She doesn't have that same feeling with Holly. and it's understandable.  She wants Holly to succeed, but at the same time isn't certain Holly has it in her and is trying to prove it to her.   It's tough love for sure.  We will see how it plays out.

Fair points. And certainly, I think Holly calls for a different approach to Stephanie. At the same time, I just feel that it's for Holly to make this decision. If she wants to fight, Allison's focus ought to be more on making her as ready as possible instead of trying to convince her otherwise.

Even if that means Holly gets hurt.

Just my view, for what it's worth. At the same time, I love that ambiguity in Allison and I think it makes her a more fascinating, multi-faceted character - something I hope to see more of.

very unusual move. to lock the arms together behind the back is an often to see hold, but the position of the winner in this situation here in the pic is unusual and creative.
