Au/What if?:

A book on tactics, a photo album (mostly filled with portraits of Azula), a embroidered scarf, a drawing of the avatar, maps, plans, and more got tossed into a box.

He was clearing out his father's old study. He'd found a few interesting things, but nothing worth keeping; although he considered giving the album to Azula. She always cried whenever he went to see her, but sometimes she would start apologizing. He assumed she meant for trying to kill him-- no, that was being optimistic. It was probably for failing their father. Maybe the album would help... or maybe it would make things worse.

He sighed and opened another drawer. Inside was a large key. He lifted it and studied it, wondering what secrets it unlocked. For some reason he had a feeling it had something to do with flowers but... What would his father do with a key and flowers? Never the less, he pocked the key, and continued searching and tossing. As he threw a black leather book into the bin the book flopped open and a few pages had flown out and onto the ground. He caught a glimpse of what his father had written.

Nina. It was a name he was only vaguely familiar with. He knew she was a firebending instructor at the Girls Academy his sister had been sent to. Other than that he didn't know much more. She didn't interest him.

The mention of his Uncle grabbed his attention though. Zuko bent over, scooped up the book, and continued reading. His eyes widened with disbelief, even though his heart wasn't surprised. Even so, certain words and phrases ran through his head.

Ursa caught them foolishly trying to spy on a meeting.

pains me to know he will take the thrown after his father. If only there was some sort of solution. Can you think of any? You know I take your suggestions very seriously...

Zuko stared at the book and papers before he let out a growl and lit them on fire. No more pain. Not for his Uncle. Not for his Father. He deserved to know though-- no no no

Zuko placed his head in his hands. It wasn't about jealousy. But what about their father? It wasn't about power. But wasn't it? It wasn't about the truth. Yet he knew his Uncle and cousin deserved it. It wasn't about anything. Wasn't it about being free? It never happened. But a pang in his heart made him realize who Azula was truly apologizing to... He never knew.

Zuko would make sure he never would- not from his lips for that matter.

It was time for truth and reconciliation.
