You can say that the design is a bought asset. Designed by another guy, and she could have been used for any game of any kind.
And it´s true.
But think in what she represents right now. The girl with the black ponytail, the seifuku and the bloody knife isn´t just a girl with a black ponytail, a seifuku and a bloody knife, anymore. Now it´s an icon.
Do you think that the logos of the big companies were designed by their owners? Many of them weren´t. But the thing that´s behind them, the product or the company itself, its what made that logos grow and grow in the public knowledge.
The part that made this asset an icon, were all the things in the game that aren´t the asset. The idea of a Yandere Simulator game, was the one that made this girl be called Yandere-Chan.

And that´s awesome.
