Neither. Pride and lust is something everyone has (to a greater or lesser degree, of course), and both can be forgiven. There's no sin outside of God's grace that can be forgiven. However, both can lead to disastrous results if left unchecked.

Apologies. The picture is look into Charles' mind. You see, he's a Spike's uncle and is romantically in love with him, yet he shows it in very violent ways. The guy's got a lot of issues.  You can find a bit more about him here oomizuao.deviantart.com/art/SP⦠. This is the twelfth chapter in Oomi's story, from Chuck's point of view. I'm guessing the pic was inspired from this chapter.

I know. I've read the story, which is excellent. The question was somewhat rhetorical (even if it wasn't used in a speech). But I realize Charles has both weaknesses in him. I know what he does to Spike. But still, which is worse in him, we have to see.

I know this is an old piece, but given the latest information you gave us, I wonder if he understood what real love was like during his life. You mentioned he had a rough upbringing, and had some things to sort out. Just got me thinking if Charles had been abused or neglected by someone during his boyhood years.

Ya know, sometimes i wonder if Charles himself was ever abused the way he does to Spike when he was young. Charles says that he loves Spike and the sexual abuse is his way of expressing it, and this usually occurs in abuse victims when they get older; love and pain went hand-in-hand for them growing up so they continue this pattern when they have kids of their own.
So i start to wonder: who "loved" Charles? A close relative possibly? Maybe one with green eyes?? That would explain his hatred of Spike's eyes, not to mention his abusive behavior, now wouldn't it

I would love to tell you Charles' story, because there are some reasons behind why he abuses Spike, but I don't want to spoil things for my novel... sorry...
but you're right about what you wrote there. Abusers have usually had something more or less traumatic happen in their lives to make them abuse others. And Charles did have a kind of hard upbringing. Still, I don't think that justifies the things he does to Spike. Not at all. There's no excuse for harming a child like that.

All the time I see Uncle, I see Lance Henriksen (that actor, who played android Bishop in Aliens). They both have a creepy look.
