You ever hear that theory that a big part of Santa Claus lore was based on shamans in Siberian Area? They said they brewed teas out of the amanita mushroom to obtain night vision on the darkest day, which was the new moon after the solstice, usually 24 hour nights, the shaman dressed in bright red, would visit the huts, buried under feet of snow, where the only way to get in was through the chimney, when inside they would give gifts of insight while the people living in the hut would give food. The shamans usually dried their mushrooms in their stockings next to the chimney, and they would ride sleds pulled by reindeer, the deer enjoyed eating mushrooms as well and would jump so high they'd appear they were flying.
