Nuru and Psári meeting for the first time.

And as little Nuru swam away

from the dark depths

his home

to hunt for some meat

he saw a hundred mermans and mermaids

searching for a new place to stay

And that’s when he met

a young and colourful merman

with yellow skin and orange tail

and dark red hair

following a swarm of little fish

to play with them

So Nuru swam up to him

and grabbed a fish

biting into it’s flesh

until it stopped struggling

licking the blood from his teeth

and holding it out

to share his food with the other merman

for he never had a friend

and found the bright colours of this merfolk so endearing

But his new found friend looked shocked

staring at the dead fish

between Nuru’s pale fingers

and the blood in the water

and on Nuru’s lips

not seeming to like his present

So Nuru shrugged and ate the rest

thinking ‘he might not be hungry’

and smiling at the young merman

through bloody teeth

and his new friend smiled back

hesitantly

but genuinely

Psári did not understand

why the other merboy had killed

that innocent little fish

but he had heard

about cannibalistic merfolk

which lived in the dark bottom of the ocean

And as Psári listened

to the stories his elders told

he thought about

how he could meet them

and find out what people they were

Were they good?

Maybe evil?

Or was that brutal way

just part of their culture

and their way to stay alive?

Who knows what mentality

such an odd species had

For he never saw

such an interesting species before

and his curiosity grew

every day

Til they met again.
