Description A sneak peek at some future jewelry. I finally got into making resin pieces and it is so fun! This is my first batch of stuff, just waiting to be made into rings and pendants and maybe a keychain or two. Also some of the plain ones will be recieving a backing of some kind, instead of being just plain clear.

The second batch will have less "Ophanim" and more Latin on it XD I mostly made the Ophanim ones for the joy of pretending I am burando :3

I looove how clear these pieces are! X3
*Planning on buying something once I have no more money worries XD*
And I saw you said you use the SuperClear resin, but I can't find any anywhere at all...
Did they stop selling it or are there any other types of resins that cure very clearly? My EasyCast resin is burning my nerves and I feel like all of my resin pieces fail

Yeah Resin Obsession juuuuust went out of business a few months ago! They use a 2/1 ratio resin instead of a 1/1 and I am pretty sure they don't actually make their own resin or anything (considering they are just a supply place!) just repackage something under their name. When my current supply runs out I'm just going to try hunting down any other shops that sell 2/1 ratio resin and hope it's the same sort of stuff Resin Obsession sold. Pouring temperature is also pretty important though (although, honestly, I've poured the Resin Obsession stuff in some pretty cold temps and gotten amazing results!) when it comes to bubble free resin. What exactly kinds of problems are you having? Too many bubbles, or foggy resin? I am no expert but I might be able to give you some pointers!

Want to do a trade ? A resin piece for one of your apple/key pieces?

Last night I tried using my floor heater to heat up the cup I use for mixing the resin, heated it up pretty hot and poured it and the bubbles are almost gone now yay! XD I was having trouble with a bunch of tiny tiny bubbles forming after it cured inside lol

And yes I dooo~ I love your work >.< The only thing I can't currently trade is the Poison Key or Decayed Crow since I only have 1 available and they're some of my favorites XD I am currently working on a larger bronze similar piece of the Poison Key necklace though (in case you wanted that XD)What pieces do you have available for trade? ^^

Oh good! Heat lamps, heat guns, even hair driers usually help with getting bubbles out!

Very cool give me a couple weeks before we do the trade, if you don't mind, I don't have many resin pieces left at the moment but I hope to do another batch of them pretty soon. I have some coffin shaped molds I made recently that I've really been wanting to try out!

Thats fine XD Ohh I always wanted to use coffin molds X3 What did you make yours from? I ordered some made for chocolate but i'm scared to use them because they're a big big, have a grain, and dont bend easy XD;;

OphanimGothique In reply to Necrosarium [2011-12-10 20:50:24 +0000 UTC]

Haha making them was such a pain! First I made little coffin shapes with polymerclay (sooo carefully!) then I baked it and polished them all about 5 or 6 times to get as smooth of a surface as I could, then I use a silicone mold making mixture to make molds of them.

Using chocolate molds is always really hard with resin, I've never used them but I hear that a lot of the time they're impossible to get the pieces out of. Too bad because there are so many great chocolate molds out there!

I was thinking of doing that but i'm not sure what would make a good mold XD And yea, i'm too scared to try mine, they've been rotting on my floor for about 2 months now lol

But I can't wait to see your coffin necklaces, I know they're going to be so cute! X3

this is a beautiful collection! I love how they look. The ones with the little petals give the impression that everything is floating in water. What resin brand did you go with?

Thank you very much! These are actually made with ResinObsession SuperClear resin. I loved it, it really was super clear and pretty fool proof when it came to bubbles, and cured in about 16 hrs, but it was a bit out of my price range so I haven't actually used it in a while!

LovelyShrew In reply to OphanimGothique [2011-05-02 23:10:20 +0000 UTC]

Very cool. Resin is so pricey in general. =\

If the petals in yours are real, did you notice them browning over time? That seems to be the main problem I have been having, finding a resin that I like to work with but one that wont brown the more delicate natural elements that I put in =}

OphanimGothique In reply to LovelyShrew [2011-05-03 00:29:37 +0000 UTC]

So far I haven't noticed any browning. But I have only been casting resin since last summer, so I don't think they've been around long enough to really brown noticeably.

What kind of resin do you use and how long do you tend to notice things stay vibrant in it? It's something I've always been really curious about but don't really know anyone else who casts resin and the internet hasn't been very helpful about!

BTW, as if it wasn't apparent from my silent faving of your pictures, I love your pieces! The frosted ones are especially gorgeous.

I noticed browning within a week or two. I use Castin' Craft, and except for the price I like it. Also, I dont know about the one you used but the Castin' Craft is sooooo strong smelling, it seemed to bother my roommates (even though I was outside).

Actually, another downside of the castin'craft is the ratio of the curing agent, the chart on the back is almost useless for larger batches. I really had to learn by trial and error which isnt too fun with an expensive product.

I can tell we used the same molds, and I liked those well enough but I wish they made more shapes and sizes.

Thank you for the faves and support too, I appreciate it =}

I use Castin Craft as well for a lot of my recent stuff and I haven't noticed any browning yet, but then again, I only use dry rose petals so maybe they just brown as much as they possibly can before drying up.

The Resin Obsession stuff is practically odorless! I really loved it for that fact!

I agree about the molds! They're so easy but it seems like there are pretty much no choices for shapes! It's either the basic geometric shapes or some sort of wacky useless shape like realistic seahorses or something like that. I would even love to get my hands on some geometric shapes with flat, instead of domed sides! I am probably going to look into the cabinet pull molds. I've actually managed to track down a faceted mold! I'm really excited about getting that in the mail, I hope it's just as good as the other ones I have!

LovelyShrew In reply to OphanimGothique [2011-05-04 23:56:06 +0000 UTC]

Thats great, maybe I will save up and give that Resin Obsession a try, it would be so useful to have a odorless resin.

I totally agree with you on the molds, I was dying for some simple SQUARE molds, like 1.5X1.5" or something with a nice straight edge to it. I did try soap molds once but the resin bonded to it. I also purchased a mold making goo, total crap. Sometimes paint palletes work, but so far that (and the molds we already have) are all I could find.

I added you as a friend so we can continue to share our info and I can see the works you come up with. You're so crafty! You must always be making something. I know that feeling, the need to create stuff... its a wonderful thing

Its so nice talking to someone who has actually tried resin, most people just log on and try to leech info from me... part of me feels like "go try it and THEN get back to me" =} Selfish I know.

I think it was definitely worth it! But I make so many resin things at the moment that I couldn't really afford to keep buying it.

Have you tried making your own molds with 2 part silicone? I have tried before with some cameos I had and it came out pretty well, except for air bubbles in the little nooks and crannies, but I imagine that a simple shape wouldn't have those problems. I'm actually on a constant hunt for things I can make molds from but usually come up empty handed! I have also tried the 2 part putty stuff, which is always more of a pain in the butt than it's worth. Nice for little polymer or paper clay stuff, but too much of a hassle for resin!

Thank you! I'll add you as a friend as well (I love your non-resin art too btw, it's simple gorgeous!) It's nice to talk resin with someone, I really don't know anyone else who does it. Haha, I do know the feeling of people only wanting to talk about if they're trying to figure out how to do it XD
