Perhaps it is my own fear of death that makes the concept of an afterlife a scary thought in general.
I don't believe people whenever they tell me that death doesn't scare them.
I find the concept of heaven and angels to be unsettling instead of comforting.
Angels, Demons, Heaven, Hell, Purgatory and all those things scare me because of it's relationship with death.
A human with bird wings is actually a scary visual.
Angels would make for excellent other worldly creatures in horror.
I love this scary angel concept.

i mainly like it because an angel's default greeting is "be not afraid," implying that the angel looks like something you'd be afraid of. like...humanity's protectors coincidentally look like monsters lmao

The exposed rib cage on the living woman would be a very repulsive visual.
Perhaps the angel would be repulsive in appearance to the human eye.
Much of the stories about angels and what they look like is open to interpretation.
I love your idea of running with the angel greeting of, "Be not afraid"
