Description
The water brushed the sandy shore gently, leaving behind its salty froth as it retreated back into the safety of the sea, before venturing forwards again to caress the beach.

On its gritty surface rested two small and weather-worn figures, sprawled out motionless as the fog began to envelope their figures. As the beach began to taper to an end, and feed into rough, rocky terrain, two dogs walked from the edge of the sea. Slowly, they made their way into the interior of the island. Their tails wagged leisurely, albeit tiredly.

Rowf remembered this feeling from Before. This was not the first time he had been surrounded by the fog, not the first time he had padded on a sandy beach in what he called The After. But in all his long years of life, the grizzled Labrador mix had been stolen from these lands, returned to his world of white coats and medical equipment with a jolt of shock. But not this time.

This time, he had taken the swim on his own terms. This time, the waves had not taken him in a violent, frantic fury. He had felt calm, peace, in the moments his head slipped under for the last time.

His little white companion however had not experienced this before.

"I told you, Rowf didn't I? I said there was an island out here, I did."

Rowf smiled, casting his gaze towards Snitter. It was clear he had not seen what lay behind them, nor noticed the scar on his head had disappeared. No matter. They had, really, made it to the island. His gaze softened, and his tail wagged just a little faster.

"Yes, Snitter. So you did."

Well apparently this has just been the weekend of reminiscing about old kid movies! This one scarred me, but looking back and reading through a few reviews and a very insightful post on DA (fav.me/d6ktza0 ) I found some peace with it. I also found an ending that I can reasonably allow to happen and still be happy with.

If you haven't watched it, I'd encourage you to. But not if you're younger and especially not if you're easily upset by subjects such as animal testing and human deaths.
