Description Did this as an entry for the yearly undergrad journal of philosophy at school-- the subject of this year is Autonomy/Authority. I'll probably move it into Scraps at some point. It's not too well done. Pencil and cheap Photoshop.

I don't do symbolism much... but I kinda liked where I was going with this one. It's a crumbling statue of a lion at sunset, supposed to symbolize the downfall of the stranglehold of tyranny through misused mysticism and the subsequent rise of free thought and inquiry.

Mysticism never played any part in tyranny. In fact, mysticism was often ostracized by the more rigid sects of religious orders. As far as "misuse", anything can have a negative impact if it is used improperly. Even Reason itself. All things must exist with balance, otherwise they fall apart, whether by their own doing or by that of others.

this is awesome! he looks alive, but at the same time you start looking at the cracks and see he's a statue! and the night sky behind is great!
