Description
Taken during polish Easter 2008.
________
These are only SOME of the elements, which can be seen during celebration of Easter in Poland. That's definitely not the best choice, because people in Poland who celebrate it in very traditional way have waaay different things on their tables, but that may be useful as an eyecandy for those who like cute stuff, I guess.
Explanation of elements' purposes:
- easter bunny is supposed to bring some sweets to the children in the easter morning (yay!);
- duck is just a modern element of the decoration;
- "pisanki" - typical for Poland and maybe also some neighbouring countries; coloured eggs; traditionally they should be decorated in some more elaborate, serpent ornaments which doing would take effin' hours, but I remember I've even painted them as a pokeball and some Pokemons during some other year xD', so nowadays the style of colouring is not that important;
- two little chicken, who're supposed to be yellow (orange colour just represents my taste back then
), along with the third one and pisanki represent new life - of Christ and (as a metaphor) of some ordinary person as well;
- candle - I think it's some modern element, which meaning I don't really get (except another occasion for earning money for the church), because they've just started selling it by the churches in 2008 for the first time and I don't know if it's still going on;
- lamb represents "Lamb of God", Christ. It shouldn't be so fluffy and damn cute, though.
Missing traditional elements: this thing which I cannot translate:

and things, which are supposed to be in the wooden basket: more pisanki, sausage, salt, pepper and bread - christians go with it to the church to bless it with holy water by the priest. This funny looking "flower" is supposed to, firstly, be made with natural flowers, and secondly, represents palm leaves, which have been put down in front of Jesus when he was entering Jerusalem.
I may mixed up or forget something a little, as I'm not a christian and I don't remember all things which I was told in the childhood and later, but you get the main idea. Polish easter is not so family-oriented holiday as X-mas. Their duration is also shorter. But, if you have time and like doing some artistic or pseudo-artistic stuff, painting pisanki is a lot of fun, mainly for kids. Sometimes you make pisanki from eggs empty inside and you have to be very careful not to crash the surface (which is sometimes frustrating, when you broke another one in a row
). I wouldn't mind to make some cute decorations on them with my children, if I had them, even if it would be just for fun and not any celebration x3 So, in conclusion, activity highly reccomended for those who haven't tried it yet
