"Father, it's- it is too... far..."

Callion snorted out a laugh at the words, faltering in his steps as he turned to look back at his younger brother with a grin. "Do not say His Lordship Adail has become tired? Surely not, when he argued so vehemently to come along, even knowing it was fast approaching his nap time."

The small, dark roanling's brows furrowed in embarassed anger, ears pinning slightly. "I am not a baby, Cal. I do not NEED nap time anymore." He said, sounding recalcitrant.

"You will always be my baby brother, baby brother."

"I'm NOT a baby!"

"Boys."

The firm word from their father had both colts slipping silent, the elder raising an eyebrow and grinning at the younger before turning to resume walking at the older stag's side. Behind them came the sounds of hurried hooves trying to catch up, however after a short sprint, the hoofbeats dropped back once again. A pause, and then...

"I'm tired."

Accalon sighed, turning back to look at his youngest. "We discussed this, Adail. I warned you earlier, that the walk would be a long one." He said, flicking an ear. Adail's lips pursed in what might have been called a pout on any but a Lord's son, however he said nothing, looking away with a frown instead. Accalon's face grew its own frown at the reaction but he said nothing, choosing instead to continue walking, the two colts following in his wake.

They were taking Callion to go join the other cadets-in-training. Accalon had initially been planning to quickly drop the colt off himself before going on to his other duties, however his youngest son had adamantly insisted on being allowed to follow his father and brother. Callion had been excited at the prospect of having his brother around longer, and Accalon had eventually left Nadailia's glade with their two sons in tow. Accalon had almost thought it would prove an uneventful journey -- atleast up till Adail had decided he didn't much like long walks with no breaks.

And they had not even reached the worst of it yet. Accalon grimaced at the thought of the approaching hill; muddy and quite a bit steeper than most of the flat plains in Glenmore, he could already imagine Adail's reaction upon being faced with the new challenge. Callion had been born strong and was clearly already beginning to develop what would surely turn out to be a frame much like his own. Adail, on the other hand, took rather more after their mother and was soft and round where Callion was tall and lithe.

They reached the hill. And as predicted, Adail let out an involuntary whine at the new obstacle he faced.

Torn between amusement and exasperation, Accalon stopped at the foot of the hill and turned to look back to Adail, gesturing with his rack. "Come, Adail. Stand here, between us."

Callion moved aside obligingly as the youngest approached, swatting Adail with his tail playfully. The dark roan wrinkled his nose at the touch, however he couldn't resist smiling in response. Together, the trio started walking again, Accalon reaching out every now and again to steady Adail, trusting Callion to know his feet well enough. Gradually they made it to the apex of the hill and Accalon couldn't quite stop a smile from turning his lips up as he saw Adail's proud smile.

Deciding that the two had by far earned the reward of a rest by now, Accalon walked over to a nearby tree trunk and lay down against it with a muted grunt. "Ten minutes." He said pointedly, eyes glinting with vague amusement as the colts cheered and immediately moved over to where he was to steal their own breathers. They knew better than to try and do anything childish like cuddle, however Callion laid down as close as he dared, Adail quickly moving over to flop over his brother's side. Callion let out a laugh which he quickly stifled, shooting a shy smile towards their father before he closed his eyes for a bit of quiet time.

As for Adail, he looked ready to take full advantage to try and steal a nap. However, before that, he pointedly bared his scruffy forehead to his father, smiling as Accalon obligingly brought his rack down to gently nudge the tiny colt. That done, Adail folded himself over Callion and closed his own eyes, dropping off into his much-needed nap immediately.

Accalon sighed and shook his head at the sight of the bundle of fawn, however even as the time limit passed, he did nothing more than gently shift Callion's head away so he could stand and begin grazing nearby.

After all, it wasn't often he could let himself enjoy a peaceful moment. And having his sons nearby, breathing softly and grumbling in their sleep, made it even better.
