I like ginkgos...they're just so--distinctive. We have one by our town hall. I hear Maine doesn't have many. ^^

From my own experince I have seen that young ginkgos are not very hardy when it comes to cold temperatures so it's maybe hard to get them started so far north. Here in the lower Alps they grow well in parks but as bonsai I have to protect them in winter. Their natural environment was in southern China. Old ginkgos can have a lot of character and in Fall... Well in Maine I think you have a lot to see in Autumn ;-}
