Looking at the thumbnail, there was something familiar about this. Indeed, I'm from Colorado. Even when the towns change, the land leaves a striking impression.Β

Can you recognize where this was taken?

I was a student at CU until 1980.

Only vaguely. I've driven through Golden and done some hiking there, but I haven't spent an abundance of time in the area. I grew up further south in Parker. (When you were here, it would've been a small, rural town). My sister graduated from CU in 2015 though.

I LOVE this photo! Plus, the fact that the lead unit is a Rio Grande Geep makes it even better.

Thanks, sometimes I wasn't alone when shooting like this. I met passionate people who were waiting for a specific train. My passion has always been photography.

You're welcome. I know that feeling. When I lived in New York City, the MTA (transit authority) would have special fan trips in the subway system. People (like me) that have a passion for photography and vintage trains would wait in stations and then ride on the old subway cars to get photos of them. If you look in my gallery, you will see those photos.

I will also say that photography is a great passion to have.

yes, interesting collection. Most of my subway shots were done in Paris where I lived for 5 years. organicvision.deviantart.com/g…

That is cool that you live in Paris for 5 years. Once I start travelling, I plan on taking photos of various Metro/Subway systems, and freight trains around the world.Β

I like your photos of Paris. Also, I have watched that movie.

I forgot to mention that if you didn't see my folders of photos of the vintage subway cars that run on fan trips, here are the links:

Don't worry, I go back even further when I was in Colorado than your 1980 photo!!

Nice shot, it's great how the old photos look when scanned or digitised.Β  I have loads of my father's old slides to digitise.

I didn't think this was in Europe. I love how the b&w image gives it an historic feel, especially since the railroads played such a dominant role in the westward expansion of the U.S.

At that time I only used b&w and I developed everything in my bedroom, you can imagine the smell. I was surprised to see unguarded railway crossings! Sometimes I counted over 100 wagons so I had time to do things like this
