Hand pan or hang drum as they are called are a some what new instrument.

They haven't been around that long as far as instruments are concerned.

Beautiful sound to them.

Rather expensive for good quality ones and some what temperamental in that when they go out of tune and they do if you hit them to hard and abuse them, or take them into to many temperature extremes.

You will almost always have to send it away to the maker to get it re-tuned, unless your good with steel and know how to do it yourself.

They can also rust quickly if your not careful.

These instruments are Internationale now

  The unique musical heritage of the handpan originates in Bern Switzerland, where inventors Felix Rohner and Sabina Schårer, founders of the original handpan mecca, PANArt®, constructed a complex musical instrument called The Hang®, meaning “hand” in Bernese German, due to the fact that the instrument is played by hand.
