Description Here's my other Dragon*Con costume, Susan Sto-helit from the movie version of Terry Pratchet's "Hogfather."

If you aren't familiar with 'Hogfather,' I highly recommend you read/watch it! The lady I am cosplaying is Susan, the granddaughter of Death. She has Death's powers but wants to live a normal life, so she's a governess for two little kids. Oh, and she beats up monsters (and occasionally kills assassins) with a fireplace poker. ^_^

I styled the wig myself by sewing a black hair extension into a blonde wig. The vest I made myself (with help from my mummy) from a pattern. It was really complicated, but I can't wait to make more stuff now! I think my winter project will be learning to really sew.

I know this is pretty old, but I'm really curious as to what the poker was made out of. I know you didn't make it, but do you know what material(s) was used? I'm going to the NADWCon in Madison next month, and real fireplace tools are specifically banned.

And as for the vest pattern..do you remember where you bought it? I have been having a ridiculously hard time finding a proper vest for my Susan cosplay, so I think I'll have to just make one.

Sure, the vest pattern is Simplicity 4079. The poker is a thick dowel rod with what I think is a sawed-off chair leg for the handle. The poker part...looks like he either jigsawed or carved it out and sanded down the edges. Then the whole thing is spray painted black with a gloss varnish. It's quite light, definitely easier than carrying around a piece of iron!
