polymer clay covered bamboo crotchet hooks.i originally planned to cover metal hooks as i wasnt sure the wood wouldnt swell cracking the clay when sanding the finished piece but i could only get hold of bamboo hooks. work well in the end though. i kept the clay reasonably thick and used minimal water when sanding and there was no cracking

thank you. i was thinking about that as ive seen polymer clay pens but i think you would have problems sharpening the pencil :/
im not sure how well you can sharpen polymer clay (and to do so i suspect it would have to be a thin layer) or if it would crack or flake off
you could make pencil toppers though

These are amazing! I either a) want to try this myself or b) just buy these ones!! I crochet A LOT and have been using the rubber grips from pens on my hooks to help lessen the RSI. This is a brilliant idea to make them both pretty and fatter in your hand to make them nicer to use. I love it when practical and pretty come together! x

unfortunately these are a gift for my mother in law whos very much into her knitting and crochet but they were very easy to make and as you said particularly with the smaller hooks it makes it easier to hold. you could texture they too (though i haven't here) which would make the hooks less slippery

id seen a few other examples of covered crochet hooks so i watched a couple of tutorials on youtube in case i was missing something obvious (just search 'how to polymer clay covered crochet hooks' or similar) but basicly you can either wrap the handle in a sheet of clay or cover it with cane slices (which is what i did)roll it on a clean flat surface to even it and pinch and trim the ends to secure the clay onto the handle. then bake and sand if desired.

i found these at my local charity shop so it might be worth asking as sometimes they may be able to put some by for you if they know its something someone is specificly after.... and dont try this with plastic hooks
