Hey look the Dancerverse is still a thing.

If my memory serves my correctly, Sombra's whole story in the Dancerverse is to ascend and become an alicorn so he could be Flurry Heart's eternal companion throughout the ages. Best friends for all of eternity. Flurry denied him his wings, though, citing "no boys allowed" and he left the empire in self exile, swearing that he will become the prettiest princess in all the land. He later returns as his super-powered dark side and Flurry fixes the problem the only way she knows how- nuking him into oblivion with her sword beam spell. The end result is a snazzy new lawn ornament.

Sombra becomes the Spirit of Darkness by mantling the previous one, and becomes a sort of close fascimile to an alicorn. As he's not a being of Love, he still doesn't get any sweet wings, and his halo is a little wonky. His eyes only became blue after Moondancer and Friends blasted some friendship into him, and gave him a stern talking to. The whites came some time after.

The Sombra that Moondancer releases to help her defeat Majesty would have a true mane of shadow, with false wings to complete his look. Moondancer herself isn't all that impressed by then.
