i never tried drawing on canvas yet. what is the difference?
is it easier for graphite pencils to apply on? and is the surface easier to blend? create details?
thank you in advance
i love this drawing, and i like the freckles and dark background

Hi thanks, this is the second drawing i did on canvas board, the canvas has a rough texture but the charcoal goes on easy, graphite no way, i tried graphite and it just slides over the grooves in the canvas and your left with lots of tiny white pockets which looks awful, charcoal is very powdery and fills all the little grooves in the canvas, you can make it even smoother looking by using your finger to blend, its messy but fun.

Damian

oh it is a very clear explanation! thanks a lot!
but i guess charcoal is not that easy to draw on smooth paper rite?

Charcoal on smooth paper is fine but i would rather use a rougher texture for charcoal work.

I really like your work, my only comment (small as it is) is that the subjects left shoulder above your signature looks very flat, it feel that if there was more depth in this part it would compliment the fantastic depth and lighting of the face. I mean I really see and feel the depth of field between the point of the nose and the ears but then your gaze drops down to the T-shirt and stops. If you could see the roundness of the shoulder muscles it would immediately lift the rest of the image away from the black background.

I know you didn't ask for a critique but I can't help commenting on a peice of artwork that I evokes strong emotions in me. Thank you for posting this portrait.

It's amazing how one little thing can totally transform an artwork. I did a floral still life in acrylics that was colourful but flat, the instructor suggested I put a small triangle of light behind the vase and it lifted the whole painting out of the canvas. If i get a chance I'll take a photo of it and post it.

great !... has also a perfect symmetry, you should try to use an airbrush, is very good for hiperrealism!
