"I don't have as much stamina as you," James panted. "I've never had to run very fast before." Scarlet rolled her eyes in amusement.

"You never cease to amuse me," Scarlet replied, giving James a grin revealing a set of canines. Scarlet was a Totem Warrior or an Aspect, an ancient race with an inherited spiritual bond. At age thirteen when a boy would become a man and a girl would become a woman, they would perform a ceremony where they would choose an Aspect or an animal spirit. They would then become one with the spirit and obtain physical properties retaining to the animal. Scarlet's Aspect was a wolf, giving her unusually long canines, heightened natural senses, and her unusual golden eyes.

James bent down and examined the corpses before him.

"These were policemen," James reported. "We really are in trouble if the police have been infected."

"I want to know where they're coming from," Scarlet said. "Fifteen attacks in three weeks. That's unusual even for a town built over a graveyard."

"I'll take a look on my laptop when we get back to see if there have been any tombs and graveyards that have been disturbed recently," James replied.

"Let's head back then," Scarlet said. "Raven will have returned from her patrol by now."
