This is a possible cover for my poetry anthology, which is called "The Roseblood Poet" All of my poetry from 2003-2007 will be in it ^^. you can find it along with my other published work here: [link]Model reference stock provided by
EDITS as of 12/17/2007 Thanks to your awesome input, I've made the following changes:
- Took out "words" replaced it with a grouping of roses shaped like a heart.
-Took out some of the black in the face
-Made the hairline blend into the scalp better.

I love this, for some reason... it just screams alive, fire and water and connection. Plus I love the way you used the opacity to your advantage when painting the body. Maybe not the most polished, but great!

This is nice, I love the colours you chose, looks wonderful. One improvement I see though, is the eyes. The white is a little "too white" for my taste. Try using some greyish tones in there. And you might work on the pupils, too.
Just suggestions of course.
All in all it's great work however, I especially like the background.

I like it, cool idea and nice colours! The hair is really cool, except that it looks very "smudge-tool"

heehee the smudge tool is my bestest friend. and no I haven't tried painter, is it a brush?

No it's a program, wacom usually bundle some lite version with their tablets. Painter 9 is the newest complete version i believe. Anyway, painter has a really nice "tinting" brush which lets you blend colours in a way that make them look much more, erm, painterly
Just tried it out. You can see what I mean on one of my pics "firefly". It's not a good piece, but if you take full view you see what I mean about the brush

Wharg! my old tabled died in like...99 xD. I use a mouse unfortunately but I feel like...hard core becuase I can do a lot of stuff on a PC and with a mouse that others can't xD. *snuggles my smudge tool* I actually have trouble with tablets, as I instinctively need to look at the paper so to speak. @_@.

nice, I like the way you make the colors flow, it looks like wet oil, the colors in the hair are particularily nice.

Wonderful blending in these colors, very eyecatching. As of improvments I think:
*That the furtherest shoulder is a little low, making the neck look too long.
*The ear could be more defined, it's kind of vauge now.
*The hair could have some darker strands, to give more volume and life.

all in all a good job, but i wouldn't put the digital text in her chest, too.
and i think the bridge between head and hair is not smoove enough...

I would not put the digital Text into the traditional art picture. You might get better results with hand-drawn text.
Apart from that, it is a great picture with interesting colors.

The only suggestion I have is, especially if it's going to be a cover (and therefore have other text on it somewhere), drop the "words" altogether?

Yaaay you live! (we did go to new york yesterday, pics will be on facebook at some point) And yeah you're one of two to not like the words in the heard thing. Maybe if I made the words distorted? or in the shape of a heart? Something needs to be there XD.

I like! I like! The only comment I have for possible improvement is the word "Words" looks a bit "tacked on"...perhaps if it was distorted a bit around the heart? Wrapped around the grey a bit?...unless it's stabbing in? or out? (in that case it could use some blurring to indicate motion?
Dunno...just suggestions.

You're the second person to mention it, and those are very good suggestions. I'll see how I can distort it a bit. Or maybe use a kanji that means "words" WE'll see. Thanks for the suggestion
