Description I'm sure no-one's ever done an oil painting of a Top Gear screenshot before ^^

But I love being the first to do so It's Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson on Clarkson's upturned 'Toybota' from the best ever episode of Top Gear. Painted over Christmas to try out painting on canvas...which I like it turns out.

Oddly painted whilst watching the entire first and second series of Roger and the Rottentrolls on youtube because it's narrated by Martin Clunes. Who is cool.

Anyway - enjoy!

- oil on canvas, 23 x 31 cms, 3 hours? maybe more...

Thanks!

You should keep practicing. Practice helps more than any lesson (although obviously lessons help to learn the technical stuff about mediums and all that!). Good luck!

"and had the tyres of my car stabbed flat by angry fangirls"

lol. : D That just about sums some of them up doesn't it? (especially the Hammond ones...No offense).

There really are too many people out there taking it way to far aren't there?
I used to get links to fanporn surreptitiously sent to me in innocently titled e-mails by mates who knew I liked Top Gear, even when I told them I didn't want it in my life. *fear*

I guess I don't care what people write in those stories really, as I suppose it's harmless enough and at least it shows people are using their imaginations. It's when they mention partners or families of the people their stories focus on-or even get them involved-that I get worried.
That just doesn't seem appropriate no matter what their reasons for doing it.

Nice perspective by the way.

I hope you (and Orlifan) don't mind me reacting to this but...as you must have noticed, I'm a huge fangirl of Hammond's. Now, I didn't take offence in your comment, but I just wanted to say : Not all of his fangirls are that bad. We don't usually go around ruining other people's cars/whatever out of jealousy. It's just something that happened in my dream and it's a huge cliche, really

Right, that said, I agree with your point on slashy fanfics. I usually don't care about what people write in those, because I don't read them. I don't like them anyway so I might as well avoid them. (Which is what I do ).They shouldn't involve celebs' families, partners and friends. That's just wrong

shyamz In reply to ARC-Trooper-Star [2009-02-23 15:16:07 +0000 UTC]

Don't worry, I agree, (and I did only say some of them, not all...most seem quite normal thankfully...and luckily for him!).

But there are some forums (that shall remain nameless), that seem to be populated mostly by the slightly more..."touched" fans shall we say, which were the people I was thinking of when I wrote the post, and they do worry me so I keep away from nearly all Top Gear websites.

If they were all like that the poor guy's life would be impossible! O_o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ARC-Trooper-Star In reply to shyamz [2009-02-23 15:22:39 +0000 UTC]

I agree. I usually stay way clear of the forums...Some of the people there are freaks

I only check the TG sites for the latest news, but that's all I ever do on them, really.

Orlifan In reply to shyamz [2009-02-19 11:44:02 +0000 UTC]

Haha yeah! My friend used to send me creepy excerpts from Pirates of the Caribbean ones (you might be able to tell I was once a huge fan of those films from my very old avatar Must change that!).

Definitely with you on that last point though, it's alright if it's the celebrities themselves because it's a sort of two-way thing with the fans. Something that sorta comes with the job (I know its not as clear cut as that but there's the basics ). It's a lot more like an invasion of privacy when the families are written about.

And thanks

omg...I'm jawdropped by the sight of this

That is one of the most amazing pieces of art I've ever seen...And it gets even better, it involves Top Gear! That is like...double-score! If there was a way to double-fave something, I surely would have done that.

Love that episode. I really loved seeing Richard not being able to stop laughing after the Toybota decided to flip over

I know what you mean by having seen this episode far too many times...I understand, I really do...

I had a friend visiting me the other day, and we watched the Vietnam episode again. I swear, I talked the entire episode saying exactly what the guys were saying... at the exact same time they said it...

And after that we watched the Africa episode again...The same thing happened : me quoting the guys the entire episode through

I must've drove my friend nuts, I'm sure of it

Haha, I have weird friends, hardly any of them like Top Gear and definitely not to the extent I do. And one of them has no tv! It's pretty much a thing me and my Mum share ^^

Though one friend spent two years refusing to watch it and now likes it

I'm waiting til they bring the Vietnam episode and the African episode out on DVD like they did with the US and Polar one. They must do

I infected my best friend with the Top Gear virus...

I'm so glad I did that, means I'm no longer the lonely TG-addict
Though I usually watch TG with my dad... But he just likes it and I'm, well...maybe a tad bit obsessed

I watch it whenever I get the chance... I watch the new epi's on BBC2 whenever they're on....and when they're repeating old episodes and doing the "Best of Top Gear"-stuff (like they're doing again now), I watch those too. And I watch the repeats of old episodes on a belgian and on a dutch channel too....

I can't wait till the new season starts...I always think it takes way too long...

Belgian and Dutch channel? I went on holiday to Holland a couple of years ago and we never saw Top Gear...we saw Pride and Prejudice with subtitles though

Yeah, I'm glad one of my friends likes it now. It's weird how popular it's become since I liked it, gone up and up! That's helped

Yeah...there's definitely too long in between series - but at least the last one was a decent length. The series before was way too short.

ARC-Trooper-Star In reply to Orlifan [2009-02-04 22:17:01 +0000 UTC]

Well, I live in Holland and old TG eps are on every Friday night. And Canvas (the Belgian channel) has them on Mondays. Still, those epi's are like, two years old or something...

Thank heavens for BBC2. And the Internet

I've been a TG fan for a couple of years now, and I see what you mean. In the beginning (of TG as it is now, new style), nobody had ever heard of it. And now nearly everybody knows it. Still, I only managed to get one of my friends addicted to it...

True. Very true. Way too short.

Still, I just can't wait for the next series...I grow more and more impatient with each day...

Hehe, we have BBC2, BBC3 and Dave and Dave+1 now Plus BBC iPlayer and things like youtube.

I like seeing the really old episodes when Jeremy isn't grey haired, James has short hair and Hamster has really bad shirts because there's the vague chance that I won't have seen those episodes. They tend to repeat only the most recent two series again and again and again.

Holland was great btw, though I wish I'd seen more Sadly the only language I learnt was Hoofdcushion (probably spelt wrong) and kaffie met appelgebak (also probably spelt wrong!).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ARC-Trooper-Star In reply to Orlifan [2009-02-04 22:59:26 +0000 UTC]

Lol, they're currently repeating those old episodes you're talking about on Veronica (the Dutch channel)... Hamster just looks so damn cute with those bad shirts. But maybe I'm just saying this because I'm obsessed with him. He can look good in anything, for all I care

Cool you've been to Holland! Where did you go? Amsterdam?
LOL @ your spelling.
The correct spelling :
Hoofdkussen
Koffie met appelgebak

If you want more lessons, let me know

Orlifan In reply to ARC-Trooper-Star [2009-02-05 14:40:07 +0000 UTC]

Haha! True, though I do prefer him in jackets rather than those shirts

Went to Amsterdam for a day trip whilst in Holland (on a day when everything was closed; my family's timing is brilliant). But we stayed near Apeldoorn, can't remembered exactly where though Apeldoorn was lovely - they have a shop with loads of great art materials, haven't found any shops as good as that one in England! And we went to Delft, saw Vermeer's house and had a tourist ride in a horse and cart which was slightly terrifying. Everytime the horse went over a bridge the cart would lurch sideways closer to the canal

Well I got appelgebak right, hehe!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ARC-Trooper-Star In reply to Orlifan [2009-02-05 14:59:12 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, if I had to choose between him wearing jackets or him wearing bad shirts...I'd go for the jackets too.

Lol, most of the tourists visit Amsterdam. But I think Amsterdam is a little bad for our image, though...Too many coffeeshops. I think it gives foreigners a wrong impression of us, they must be thinking we're all on crack here or something O.o". Which is SO untrue.

Ah, I see you went to Delft! Bought any "Delfts Blauw"-themed souvenirs, by any chance? xD

Yay for appelgebak, lol.

Orlifan In reply to ARC-Trooper-Star [2009-02-06 22:12:31 +0000 UTC]

Hehe! There were a lot of coffeeshops Thats a good thing though - did so much walking (and err, getting lost!) that we needed a break every now and again. It was a great place - we went on a tour boat ride all around the canals. And I've never been in a place with more bicycles!

No, it was a shame, because I would have wanted to get some as a little souvenir, like that I remember it rained a lot that day and we were on our way back to the ferry port so we couldn't do a lot of shopping. Got some nice chocolate though

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ARC-Trooper-Star In reply to Orlifan [2009-02-06 22:54:20 +0000 UTC]

Lol...By coffeeshops, I meant the shops that sell weeds, not coffee...(for some retarded reason, those are called coffeeshops, even though they don't sell coffee)...I swear, there's too many of them. It makes foreigners think we're all on crack. >.>"

Aww, such a shame you weren't able to buy much. It usually rains a lot around here, so yeah...
