My grandfather fought for the Irish Regiment in World War I. He gave the locket to my Grandmother, who he later married after surviving the war, being prisoner of war, and earning the Victoria Cross. The locket originated in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh,Northern Ireland. The couple after marrying and having their first child, my mother in 1920 emigrated to Canada in 1922. My grandfather had begun to homestead several years earlier in Saskatchewan and was the land they relocated to and began to build their home on with flower gardens, vegetable gardens and many additons, like windmill. My relatives in Enniskillen said the word was that they had much better lives than those left in Ireland.
