I keep coming back to this. I love it but one thing let's it down for me. Bear in mind that I teach guitar for a living and just love guitars with a passion...so hopefully you'll understand when I say that the incomplete headstock is doing my brain in, lol. I appreciate that from a composition point of view the layout me be seen as a necessity but I guess I may be a tad OCD on this particular issue. Have to say though that this is one beautiful drawing and I understand what you were saying about mega dark value pics...they take far longer than we anticipate when starting the drawing, lol. All in all a great pic and given the above...well done for seeing it through!

Thank you very much for your comment. I actually would of loved if the reference picture had the rest of the head. I play guitar myself so i tried my best to make the guitar look good. i know that the strings dont have right spacing but i did my best to do the right spacing. It was a pain to do the strings with an eraser... i was told that scratching the paper would also work but i rather have my drawing in one piece rather than with deep scratches!

Ah, it didn't even occur to me that the ref may have had no headstock. No, the whole pic's great, guitar and all. And as for the strings...well, I'd say you did a pretty amazing job. This really is one great pic of one of my all time favourite artists...probably the best I've seen yet. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Heheh, smart move. I do nothing smaller that A3 myself. Great for detail but I just used a complete pencil on my latest drawing! (gotta steer clear of dark and moody in future, lol). Thanks for the chat

Many well-crafted details and an interesting style. The hard-edged shadows seem appropriate for the subject. Good balance of darks and lights. The hair frames the face so well that even though he is not beautiful, he does look artistic.

thanks for the critique! it took me quite a while to finish this one. i actually lost track, its a really dark image with lots of dark values! it was very time consuming doing all those dark values. but thanks!
