So, they are hatched from eggs?
Have you noted how they have a symbiotic defensive and even social relationship with Pseudo-Canaria Mullerornis, last extant species of the Aepyornithidae, nicknamed Generally as the βElephant Birdsβ. Pseudo-Canaria is distinctive in its remarkable superficial resemblance to the common yellow canary, only seeming as a gigantic one.

Dang. Well, what do you think of my symbiotic elephant bird idea?

Anyway, Snuffy looks like he could get a job as a termite exterminator.

Hmm, I think the Elephant Birds are the gigantic birds most similar to big bird, ESPECIALLY the feet and breadth of the rump. No Megalornis had a beak anything like Big Bird, but there was at least one Elephant Bird that came close, which is why I picked that real genera for the fictional species. They had the longest, thinnest beak of the entire family.

Yes, I discovered that later. I still prefer elephant birds as a baseline just because I can imagine how embarrassed poor Big Bird will become once he slowly becomes increasingly naked. Puberty will be a bitch!

Too bad. I was having a notion for an βugly ducklingβ scenario where Snuffyβs egg had accidentally ended up in Big Birdβs nest and thatβs how they were raised together.
