HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAYYY!
gift for the super outstanding dear friend, Poisons-Kiss and her well known handsome boy Cold War!
I had so much fun with this, I had a ton of freedom and this really inspired me and got me back on track art wise. I actually was going to do Kiosydan, but scratched it haha. Then, when I was faced with the color change, I pretty much had this huge feeling of failure, so I put it down... later that week inspiration hit, and was like bam.  I started in again and it all went so much better after that. somewhere along the lines I gained my confidence back. so yes, silly little story, time to get to the rest n v n

okay Cas, feel free to totally scald me but I had to //evil smirk//. I just had to capture Cold War's inside... maybe what he was really feeling - his brokenness. The part that never is shown. He's always so brave, and I've never seen him broken, and in life we all are broken at times. So there... I had to. I really hope you enjoy!!! you've been there for me ever since I've known you. even a year ago, and I didn't really know you at all, but your heart was always open t anyone. I really enjoy talking to you, you're always bringing smiles to my face.  it's people like you on dA that inspire us. Your art is just jaw dropping, and you're willing to help people. You're not selfish and snobby, you care so much about others, and it amazes me :') I can't wait to see what other jokes and silly things we come up with later in life, n'aww just thanks for being such an amazing friend ♥♥

I love everything about this piece. I like the way that the reddish pink on the horse has a sharp contrast to the blue and the darker colors, along with the white. I like the way the horse's anatomy is perfect, and I like the way it looks at the swan. The background is fantastically blended and the detail on the water is amazing. The horses' mane and coat, along with the swan's feathers have an amazing sense of detail, and to me, this pieces is amazing. The only thing I think could've been better is the rain. It seems that it's just... a lot of the same downwards motions, and the work just seems repetitive with it. I feel like there should be less, or perhaps ones that were less opaque than others. I like the way on the horse that you can see the water drops splashing in the coat. I'm not a very good critiquer, but hopefully this helps you out some!

Overall, I would like to start by saying this is an excellent effort, with a good, clear objective. However, there are points that could be improved.

To make it more realistic, I feel that you could add some droplets of rain onto the image surface, which would give the illusion that the screen is wet. Also, So lighting in the background would also add to the effect of the image, helping it to stand out.

The horse, on the other hand, is pretty much perfect, However, I suggest toning the spots brightness down a little more, which would help to make the image seem a little more realistic.

As well as that, I think that the clouds at the very top of the image could be given some more detail, as right now it seems to be quite basic in and around that area. However, As I already said, overall I really like this piece, and hope to see more like this from you soon.

Regards,
KidgellB

I think this is really pretty, I love the rain and the water. The photo is very sharp, but I like how it does not take away from how real the picture looks like at all. I mean, obviously horses do not look like that, but the photo manipulation is very well done. I think that the rain helps with that- with a little bit of over lay, the horse blends in to the picture better. And the swan does not look out of place either. In fact, it almost looks like part of the original picture. Very good job e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

This piece is just so amazing. It's so beautiful. I'm not sure if I'm looking at a horse or unicorn. That line in the waves is such a good effect that almost gives it an appearance of a unicorn. I like how you outlined it's body too. The markings really stand out. I also like the details of the muscle on the body. Good job.

The waves are magnificent. I love the details of the waves, especially it hitting the rocks and coming up along the beach. And the swan's wings, AMAZING.

I will try to recommend this piece as a DD. You deserve it. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

This is a great photomanipulation, with its stormy atmosphere and blueish-gray tone. The splashing waves look dynamic and the rain is amazing as well. Most of the picture looks lifelike; however, the horse has a painterly appearance and it doesn't seem to fit with the "real" stuff. It's a nice touch that the horse's mane and tail look wet from the rain though.

The swan looks perfectly balanced in the water even though the waves seem pretty violent. The water right wear the swan is floating seems flat and calm, unlike all the white waves elsewhere. I think somehow adding white waves/foam where the swan is would be an improvement.

I hope the critique wasn't too harsh or anything e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/> Beautiful work.

I love everything about this, the coloring, the shades, the expression... Although if I can give you a tip; soften up on the pink marks on the horse's back. If they were a softer tone of pink, I think they'd come over as more realistic, life like markings e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>
Furthermore, I love how you integreted the horse into the sea, they fit perfectly. The front of the sea could have been alittle darker I think, but that's more of a taste then a critique I would say e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/> Apart from that I have absolutely nothing to criticise you on, so well done!! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/> Hope you appreciate this, and keep it up! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

In this image, I love the expression on the horse's face, how it is looking at the swan as though they are having some sort of silent conversation. THe way that you have done the rain and the rough-ish water gives the impression that their conversation is incredibly important, and that something will happen if one of them doesn't find out what the other is telling them. The rocks and the spray add an extra touch to this image, because it gives the image slightly more to look at than simply the horse and the swan. I think that this image is amazing!

Critique for Equinspiration!

The shading on this is excellent! Although my style deviates away from a softer shading technique, the shadows and highlights are in excellent for ere. I might recommend sharpening them in some places, however, as it can make parts of the body look soft/squishy where they are not. An example would be on the horse's jaw, which to me looks a little more voluptuous than most horses' cheeks are The shading on the swan is excellent! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

While I don't believe you need to edit the raindrop splashes (they look fine to me!) I would recommend adding some light mist over the horse's haunches and in the background to really tie together the rain, horse, swan, and background. I find a good technique for mist is t use a soft brush and then gaussian blur is a bit to get rid of your brush strokes.

Finally, while the colors match really well together, I feel like the horse's marking look like they're floating about the horse's back. The markings don't have any of the shading that the body does, so they look out of place here. Compared to the light blue/silver/white on the legs and underbelly, the colors of the markings and just much too white and bright for the setting of the piece. If you move the shading level up over the markings, this would be a really easy fix c:

All right so, I adore the composition and lighting in this piece. It's very surreal and reflects the broken theme you mentioned you were going for so well. This character's design is one that I would find kind of difficult to work with due to its color combinations, but you perfectly contrasted blue and red because they are near opposites on the color wheel so it just really makes the piece feel unified and thought through.
I also love the amount of blurring in the background and how sharp and in focus it is around the horse. It's just beautifully blended and not over done at all. The swan is a nice touch, but it looks slightly fuzzy next to the sharpness of the rocks and water around it. I could see it being blurred slightly if the area around it was too, but just a tad of smart sharpen on it would help.
The rain looks so pretty and serene too. The only thing I would have done differently is the way it's bouncing off of the horse's back. They kind of just look like little lines rather than splashes or mist, even though it still looks pretty good even as it is. And the only other thing I can think of is that the horse's eye looks slightly too small, but it could just be the angle of the horse's head who knows. Overall I just really like this a lot. I already said it once, but this is my favorite image of this character so far. c:
