Welp, here’s my Kate redesign. And yes! Ginger! I felt that there just wasn’t enough…gingerness. In general. And don’t tell me Joanne Froggatt wouldn’t make a glorious redhead. ANYWAYS. Kate seems to have been the new Marian, in terms of being the reciprocant of some truly horrendous hairstyles (I’m looking at you, forehead braid) and clothes (yeah, I think we all know which thing I’m talking about).

I decided to hell with most hisorical accuracy, because I wanted to keep her clothes in the style of the rest of the redesigns the cast got. The boys got a whole lotta leather, and it seemed only fair that she should have some too. I was toying with the idea of giving her a single shoulder pauldron, but I think the heavy armor is more of a Robin/Guy thing anyways.

I’ve become very attached to the Kate in my head — the version from our rewrite has an injured mother rather than a dead brother, and (glory hallelelujah) there’s no awkward love…quadrangle. In fact, she survives the entire season without getting paired off. IMAGINE. She’s terrified, but she’s smart, she’s capable. She’s a skilled worker. She was going to take over her mother’s work. She’s just a girl from Nottinghamshire, really, but somehow she gets caught up in the battle between King and Outlaws, and suddenly she finds she has to fight, and by god does she. We’ve decided to introduce Meg earlier on, so they’ve been friends (despite the class difference) since they were children. They stole Meg’s father’s wine and got drunk in allies, they snarked endlessly, they played all day in the fields. They never quite understood each other’s lives — Meg is oblivious to her privilege, and Kate dismisses the whole suitor debacle as a rich girl problem. But they’re fast friends, and they end up fighting side by side for their community. Oh, did I mention Meg won’t die? Because yeah, Meg isn’t getting picked off just cause she’s served her purpose to make Guy think about his suckiness. Noo. My baby’s gonna live on, amen.
