I found out that an early concept for the (now) new release of Hyrule Warriors, there was a female version protagonist named Linkle who was supposed to be Link's character's sister. Later on she was chopped, possibly in favor of keeping continuity of characters and concepts true to the title's spirit. It's too bad too; the fan community has been going crazy for decades with this fine example of Internet Rule 63 and this would have been a neat opportunity to see it come full cycle. Poor Linkle... Well she can turn that frown upsidedown because she was announced as a playable character for Hyrule Warriors: Legends.

Well, the 3DS version will also have a code to download the characters from Legends onto the Wii U version. So far, Skull Kid, King Daphnes, Tetra, Toon Link, and Linkle were announced. But Toon Link, Skull Kid, King Daphnes, and Tetra were the only ones confirmed to be downloadable for the Wii U version. Linkle should be confirmed for it, eventually. And by the looks of her announcement, her story elements might be coming to the Wii U version as well, though I still don't know why Wii U owners can't have the Wind Waker elements to where we have to play the 3DS version. I think Linkle kicks butt alot in the game. I'll be preordering my copy. Who else do you hope gets announced? Because I hope Saria gets announced.

We thought Rusl or Telma, from Twilight Princess, would be interesting. Also Nabooru of OoT would be awesome and Orca of Wind Waker could be a lot of fun.

Well, we have a lot of games starring Link, so...

Then its a female option for Link, Link is just the Avatar of the player when you get down to it not a character as much as we want him to be.

Link's his own character. He's not vocal, but he has a distinct and consistent personality.
I meant that there's no reason not to have a female Link, not that they should stick to tradition. Superior Spider-Man was totally different and people loved it.

It would make sense that KT took elements from Linkle and gave it to Lana early on during development, and then scrapped her sense her character development would detract from Lana and Cia's conflict.
Oh and awesome picture, I just want to hug her and tell her everything is going to be okay.

That's a very good point. However, she could hav made it into the game as a secondary protagonist, maybe as a sister who looks up to Link and wants to be like him and is eventually inspired to become a hero herself. She could even have told off Cia at one point, telling her, “Get away from my brother!”

We'll never have Link's little sister running around the battlefield calling for her "oniichan."
We'll never have Linkle get super jealous when either Lana or Zelda have a "moment" with Link.
We'll never have a social awkward Linkle use troll logic to justify competing for her brother's effections in Link's harem.
