Description
Katsuro Honda, is the personification of former Republic of Ezo, the state that was founded by the former supporters of Tokugawa shogunate, and the younger brothers of Kiku Honda, the personification of Japan.

Please take note that since he is representing the former republic of Ezo, he is not the personification of current Hokkaido, now is a prefecture of Japan.

INTRODUCTION

Been in isolation since for a long time, Katsuro only interacted with several local tribes like Ainu and Nivkh people before he meet Kiku for the first time in 6th century, (refer to first interaction of Japanese with local tribe of Ezo at the time) Through Kiku, he was introduced with outside world and he was live and served under several shogunate rule, from Kamakura, Asikaga, to Tokugawa Shogunate. However, the discrimination against local Ainu population have led to several rebellion against Tokugawa rule, in 17-18th century. Since he is under Tokugawa rule, he didn't have any choice except by defeating his former allied friends; the Ainu tribe.

However in 19th century, the decline of Tokugawa rule and their defeat in Boshin war in 19th century have changed his life forever; when at 1869, he was proclaimed as a independent nation by former Tokugawa military officers and soldiers, who proclaim to become loyal to him.

He tried to get some recognition of him as a independent nations, and able to convince Alfred and Arthur to recognize him as a nations, but Kiku did not. In response, Kiku send the naval fleet and his army to reoccupied the north, and Battle of Hadokate is happened. In this war, he fought so hard with his old Tokugawa officers to defend his independence from Japanese troops, but he was unable to hold the advance of Kiku army, and finally surrendered.

Since the dissolution of Ezo Republic, he is not allowed to take part in the recent development of the new territory of "Hokkaido" due of his past, but he was allowed to served under Japanese army. He served under several unit and regiments, from Russia to Manchuria, until the end of World War Two.

Now, he lived quietly at Hakodate city, trying to not involved in a politics anymore. However sometimes he will visit his brother, Kiku and several nations like Russia, China or Korea.

PERSONALITIES

Like his brother, he is a polite, hard-working person and an conservative person who still believing with the samurai traditions. He is love to learn something new, but at the same time a bit picky. Even he and Kiku are brothers, he sometimes arguing with him, even for small matters. (Hokkaido people are also known for their ‘Kansai allergy’ and are said to dislike people from Osaka, Kobe, and Kyoto.)
